The ship he fell off of had 42 inch high rails. He managed to fall off anyway.
Deck 5? That sounds pretty low on the ship.. Lucky he didn’t do a gainer from one of the top decks. We always go for balconies. How the heck folks get flung over or fall is beyond me.
Life is no cake walk at sea.
This guy lucked out. I’d book Vegas if I was him.
I have been on cruise ships from Carnival to Princess to Crystal and NEVER like the railing systems they have.
I HAVE gone overboard while working on charter boats in Florida and even from 20 feet, it’s a scary ride.
We’ve crossed the Atlantic, Pacific during very high seas and with just one wave surge can easily see how dumb people could go over the rail.
One crossing of the Tasman Sea in the deep of the night, I stood on our balcony in the total darkness...very creepy to imagine being in water like that...
It appears he did fall overboard at 6:07 and was spotted by a passenger on the second ship at 7:31
The bridge would have to be alerted and turn the ship around and go back to pick him up.
These are large ships the "Magic" measures 964 feet in length, with a width of 106 and would take a little time to turn around -but it does seem turning around and taking over 3 hours to get back and get him is a long time.
( Unless they had trouble finding him in the water, or some glitch in the rescue attempt.)-Tom
Thank you for that. Love that scene.
Oh man ... I love that Laurel and Hardy movie! {^) Maybe we’ll watch it tonight!!! It is a hoot.
Now that he is recovered from the sea, keep him chained to a bulkhead until you’re in port!
One would think they would put out a launch to rescue a drowning man in the middle of the ocean, rather than wait three hours (what?!) until the whole damn ship turned around, showed down and stopped.
1M: "Well Captain, shall we put out a rescue boat, or have brunch while watching an entire football game before we go see about the wet guy?" C: "He made it this long, he can wait a few more hours. Pass me a beer."
Maybe he was trying to outdo that Miami Dolphin who swam ashore.
LOL!! Ya beat me to it! “Sons Of The Desert’’.

True. Moonless nights, Mediterranean Sea, on flight deck of carrier, all lights off while doing night launches.
I once fell off my uncle’s 38” boat, sitting on the starboard rail and I leaned back too far. Tumbled in backwards. Fortunately, he was towing a skiff. I surfaced, grabbed the skiff rail and hauled myself in before anyone noticed or the boat even slowed down. I still had my drink glass in my hand (of course I’d lost the contents by then).
A 38-inch boat? Be hard not to fall off.
I’m sure you meant 38’ but that’s funny. We have a 40 ft sailboat and it would actually be pretty easy to fall off in rough seas, etc.
When we’re out if we have someone with us I make them stay in the cockpit.
For example, one is very apt to become over-stimulated when perusing FReep posts. So, our Pan-African/American Government (may Allah Bless them) hath decreed that none of us... neither me nor you ... must operate an input device without being firmly anchored with a shoulder harness to the floor in an OSHA-approved soundproof room, while wearing head, ear, eye, and toe protection. It is for the children, especially those who may have survived post-partum abortion.
Of course, Golux, for your own good, I have been instructed to inform you that you shall not have any internet access until you install the required PPE and that equipment is certified by an OSHA Inspector. (Inspector Antwan, who is presently handling a case in Ferguson, Missouri, is your guy.)
Tip: Give Antwan your Lunch Money.
Wimp!
Wear "solid hiking shoes" on my deck, and I will personally throw you overboard and maintain my course and speed.
God Bless ya man, I would have made a messy cockpit!
