The question is how they deflated the footballs without being seen and why the officials did not notice the grossly deflated footballs while handling them during the game.

Are not the footballs shared? I would think a basket with all the footballs in them during the game would be a fix. The ref picks a football out of the bin and gives it to either team while the game is going on.

Were it critical to a team's, or player's, performance, the NFL would not allow teams to supply their own game balls. Nor would they allow a range of pressure for balls.

The fact that they specify a range of pressure and allow teams to supply their own balls at worst creates plenty of opportunity for some fudging to occur, and at best creates opportunity for post game controversy (as we're now witnessing).

If the NFL is truly interested in 'fairness,' the referees would supply all balls, each inflated to the exact same weight (no range). The balls would be monitored by sideline officials who verify that each meets specs every time one is put into play, even going so far to tweak their pressure as the temperature changes during the game.

Doing this would mean that Brady, Manning, Luck, et al would be playing with identical balls at any location and under any weather conditions.

(New temperature/old temperature)*old pressure = new pressure

Learned this in seventh grade.

So, this is now the 2nd time the Pats have been caught. When do they face repercussions?

Several questions or thoughts:
1. Why don’t team managers check the balls they will be using before the game?? In my coaching days including a stint as an asst.college coach the managers checked everything.
2. If the balls were inflated in a warm room and then taken out into a cold stadium they would naturally loose some pressure,
3. What effect does a slightly deflated ball (which is the case)have on the game??

What we don’t know, is whether or not the “officials” ALSO weighed the Colt’s balls. The article does not say...

We also don’t know if the gauge used was calibrated, or if more than one gauge was used.

But the whole thing is this - Liberals despise success, be it The Patriots, Walmart or the US Military.

When the NY Yankees win 2 championships in a row, there are always calls to break up the team. “They always win. It’s not fair....”, is the whine from the MSM

So the next step the Liberals always take, is to create, at least, the “appearance of impropriety”.

For the last 15 years, the Patriots have been a most succesful team. We must not buy into the Liberal hatred of success.

Canceling or forfeiting the Super Bowl is just not going to happen. There is no stopping the runaway money train known as "The Super Bowl."

Bill innovated here and complied with the rules, I think, while gaining an advantage. Boo Hoo to all who cry cheater. I am not a pats fan but admire the use of science to gain an advantage in a competitive environment.
