The 2015 Ford F-150 plays a muscular engine note through its speakers.
Stomp on the gas in a new Ford Mustang or F-150 and youll hear a meaty, throaty rumble the same style of roar that Americans have associated with auto power and performance for decades.
Its a sham. The engine growl in some of Americas best-selling cars and trucks is actually a finely tuned bit of lip-syncing, boosted through special pipes or digitally faked altogether. And its driving car enthusiasts insane.

Look up ‘Sound Symposer’. This design directs a tube from the airbox or intake pre-MAF sensor into the dash to deliver the resonance inside the cabin of a car. The result is a throaty sound that makes people believe the car is fairly powerful. There are also butterflies built into mufflers now. If you look at the dual exhaust of some BMWs, you will see that one exhaust tip looks ‘closed’ until wide-open throttle when it opens up to create more sound due to the straight through perforated tube running through it.
GM still had to compete with Ford and Chrysler so I don’t think it was that big of a jack up.
Nice truck!
Just wanted to point out that this was total propaganda in
purely communist fashion.
Here’s the proof.
The fact that Mr. Harwell is pushing the Obama and the
communist agenda is obvious.
MG deserves to be out of business.
I just stick a playing card in the spokes.
I don’t know, I kind of liked those little British sports cars.
My SUV cost $55,000
I could have bought a porsche and pocketed 10-15 grand!
I’m quite happy to have a car make only ‘necessary’ noises.
If it had been technologically practical would Henry Ford have considered making his cars create horse gallop noises?
The revived MG. Yuk!
Not good. not good at all.
It might even be a nice little car - but it is NOT an MG.
Can I get one that also perpetually vents “new car smell” inside every time I step on the accelerator?
“I just stick a playing card in the spokes.”
That’s what boys often did when I little. I guess some people never grew up.
Neigh!
The issue here is that today’s modern I-4 and V-6 engines don’t make the type of “throaty” exhaust note the the old V-8’s used to do. Small wonder why they put in synthetic engine sounds just to please American car buyers.
“I dont know, I kind of liked those little British sports cars.”
OK for those who couldn’t figure it out for themselves
“MG” was a typo. I meant GM. I hope that clears things up
Besides MG is owned by a Chinese company so like GM its
a government controlled company too.
our Chevy 2015 4x4 3500 pickup cost us 64k. Duramax lots of power lots of bells and whistles. love it.
“If it had been technologically practical would Henry Ford have considered making his cars create horse gallop noises?”
Today it would laughably easy. I think you just stumbled onto the next marketing sensation, like the Pet Rock. You might sell millions before the novelty wears off.
