In the sparsely populated Karoo desert in the heart of South Africa's Northern Cape, the spirit of apartheid lives on.

I spent a few days in Orania, a town established in 1991 where no black people live.

I was part of a BBC crew, including Zimbabwean journalist Stanley Kwenda, who were accredited to visit.

why does one like this guy or homosexuals want to move to places where they are not wanted? When we moved here years ago we checked out the neighbors and how friendly it was. We certainly would not move to an area which does not want us.

Boston is a hotbed of racial tension just a hair below the surface. South Boston was traditionally Irish, and in the past few years fresh immigrants from Ireland have bolstered the Irish presence in “Southie.” North Boston is Italian, and various other areas have given over to hipster yuppies. Meanwhile Roxbury and Dorchester are full of black gang-bangers. The Irish and Italians are overwhelmingly democrat (because they're all in trade and police unions), and overwhelmingly racist. The blacks are likewise extremely racist, and the hipsters pretend tolerance but are quite racist as well and don't like to mix with the locals.

Anyone who tells you Boston is a "tolerant" city is a steaming liar. When racial tensions boil over in this country, Boston is going to look like a slaughterhouse. I used to work there, and hell is going to freeze over before I set foot in the city again.

Told the misses that I will never go to that city again.
I was on the south shore working and could not wait to get out.
The racism is there alright but the people who move there and live there pretend it doe snot exist while they drive their Subaru’s with tolerance stickers and then not wanting to live with those blacks who are not the same class.

Don’t know. I was there for a wedding for friends from MIT. (Yes, there is a “pluralistic” synagogue there — meets at the Unitarian church.)

Anyway, I am Israeli, Hasidic, and, yes, very tall (although not hairy, Osage). Stood out like a sore thumb amongst all the pastels.

I was at the shops, looking around, and literally people were pointing and whispering. People came around a corner and pointed. Happened several times.

They could have been non-observant Jewish people for all I know (as they are often the rudest).

They could have been tourists from somewhere they don’t have observant Jewish people.

Or they Democrats trying to figure out how I escaped the Brookline Ghetto

Nantucket might surprise you. From a September, 2014 article:

Nantucket is changing fast. It has the highest population growth in the state. But in the last few years, it’s also had the largest increase in minorities. 21 percent of Nantucket’s population is non-white, the highest percentage by county in the southeastern part of the state. Many are from El Salvador, moving to the island for work and for a more peaceful life than the one they left behind – no civil conflict, no gang violence.

I have read about this town before. I don’t blame them. In SA the whites are being run out of their own country. The black on white crime is so bad all the whites have to live in walled communities. I know South Africans who moved to Atlanta in 1994 and they told me unreal stories about how bad it is. The blacks there are not like the blacks here. They are only 50 years out of the jungle.
