I filled out the 4473, he put it in as a favor to make sure I could get them back. The guns belonged to my father and where inherited by my mother. I am just trying to figure this out. Not made up!! For all the gathered intelligence on this site you all are jaded morons.
My mother just has a hard time getting around, bad knees. She did end up taking them herself. I personally have no guns due to the fear because of the felony. I appreciate your candor. they went back 15 years to when I was nineteen to make it a felony.

1. It’s against Federal for him to do that.
2. Again, the guns are not yours, they are your mother’s. She’s the one that should be pawning them, not you. Take her to the pawn shop to pawn them, and then have her sign the Form 4473 to get them back. Unless she’s a felon too.
BTW, your “friend” should have told you, as a convicted felon, that no way were you going to get them back AND he should have refused to have anything at all to do with you concerning guns, since he knows you are a felon, much less break Federal law running an illegal background check on a known felon. That is, unless your “friend” is as casual about the law as you.
Oh, and I bet your “manager friend” is not the holder of the shop’s FFL and if the shop’s owner knew this was going on, he’d have a conniption fit and fire your “friend”, that is unless the owner too is casual about the gun laws and doesn’t care whether he loses his FFL over shady transactions involving felons and guns.

That is true - at least on the jaded part! (Me included).
Sounds like you are figuring it out. I’m not sure where you live, but in many states you can sell firearms privately. I’m in Washington state and that was the case up until this past December when they passed a stupid law banning private sales (even to a close relative!)
There is a website called www.armslist.com that has listings of firearms for all the states. In Washington you can still buy/sell them, but they need to go through a FFL and pay the fee to do the check. That might be too much running around for your mom though. And you would need to spend some time figuring out what the rules are in your state. Of course if your state doesn’t require that, be sure you set up a private sale safely.
I’ve never had to pawn anything, but I’m guessing they don’t pay the best.
Oh - I forgot the whole part about wanting to get them back at some point! Unless there is someone else in your family that could use them (they could even buy them to help your mom out), just sell them. I’m guessing that the law prevents you from not only buying them, but possessing them.
There have been other threads on this forum that if a felon, especially a non-violent felon has done their time, their constitutional rights should not be infringed. Your situation of a mistake at age 19 as a case in point.
He needs to give you his name, badge / ID #, address, and phone number then. If he won’t, tell him you have no way to verify who he says he is and that you are not coming to his office because it may be a scam. Tell him to come to your house but don’t volunteer the address. If he is who he says he is he will have your paperwork and will already have it.
This doesn’t sound like standard operating protocol for ATF to me. They do surprise doorknocks quite often.
Thank you, I realize that details paint the picture. I have always had the book thrown at me, and understand I am responsible for my actions. I guess I would be referred to as a minority; white, middle class working family man. Actually a teacher, I told you I changed things. I just don’t want my family to suffer because trying to assist ....quietly.
