Don't sugarcoat it: Jackie Robinson West is not the champion

If you care at all about the players on the Jackie Robinson West Little League team, don’t call them champions.

They aren’t. Wednesday’s announcement by Little League International that the team has been stripped of its U.S. title and all its wins from the 2014 Little League World Series tournament is all the proof you need.

These are not champions. To say otherwise is a disservice to these kids, and they’ve already been handed a disservice big enough to last a lifetime.

So don’t say, “It’s OK, kids, you’re still champions in our eyes.” Don’t say, “We don’t care, you guys still won it all.”

Tell them the truth, and don’t sugarcoat a bit of it.

Tell them they’re not champions because, according to a lengthy Little League International investigation, the adults that the young players trusted to lead them to a title “knowingly violated Little League International rules and regulations by placing players on their team who did not qualify to play because they lived outside the team’s boundaries.”

From other sources, what are they going to do about the rest of the years (over a decade) where this was the practice in Chicago?

The kids also knew and went along with it. They are just as guilty as the adults. Don't sugarcoat that.

The theme to most of the stories, I seen about this seems to be;
It is more important to have an all African-American champion than to follow the rules.

The kids that lived within the boundary limits and were cut from the team/or didn’t make the team due to the out-of-boundary players really got cheated.

We the people, for too many parts, are not teaching our children to have character. we are teaching them that lying and cheating can get you more than honesty can. we do not value right, we condone whatever it takes to win it all, at any cost. Just look at the sexual degenerate lying asshole in the White House! We the people have told kids to look up to such a piece of degenerate excrement.

Having an all-black team is racist.

I don’t know if the kids knew. I’ll bet none of them knew or cared for the fact that there were geographic limits to team membership. I’ll bet these kids don’t know who the VP is, can’t name the capitol of Illinois, can’t name three neighboring states and don’t know the name of the national capitol.

It’s a shame that sportmanship is in such decline. But in Chicago, the land of corruption it is no surprise.

For an uplifting, tear jerking reminder of what sportsmanship (or sportwomanship) can be like, be reminded. A movie could be made out of this story.

In short, another Chicago-area sham exposed--one with national implications. And it appeared on the surface such a really nice feel good story, too.

And with all the communication outlets today one might think that even some of the players knew what was going on.

Some of those kids knew they were cheating as did the parents who lived out of their area.

Precisely.

That may well be the case. Or it may be that they didn’t know they were out of the boundary. Kids play in the league they are told to. If they switch leagues all of a sudden, they may accept an explanation that the boundaries changed. Or they may have been in on it. Worst case, though, even if the kids knew, they were 12 year olds doing what adults told them to do. I don’t blame them for what happened, just the adults. Speaking of which, the parents generally know where everyone lives. They do carpools, have team parties, know what school the kids are at, etc. Most of the parents on the team were probably aware that this was going on. But in Chicago, as you note, cheating is not a big deal.

and when they are caught you are racist.

Just look at the awards where Selma did crap because no one is interested in that anymore, it’s been done to death. The you have that rapper or what ever he is West getting on stage again saying the awards should go to Beyoncé..

Would bozo have invited the team in NM who is now champions to come and meet him?
