Fifty Shades of Grey certainly lived up to expectations as moviegoers flocked to see the erotic film over Valentine's weekend. The unconventional romance raked in $93 million in ticket sales in the US alone - the biggest February opening ever. But the tale of billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and his sadomasochistic relationship with college graduate Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) did more than that by scoring over a quarter of a billion dollars internationally.

That's the sense I'm getting... watch its number dive now that the curiosity seekers have seen it.

Someone here mentioned the book, The Marketing of Evil, which definitely is what this is.
Fascinating, in its weird way.....the reviews for this film were pretty much universally sub-tepid. But it caught that vibe “I/we have to see this”.

I believe the calculus is more along the lines of 100 MM women saying to themselves “I am not willing to say/admit I did not see it”. So it doesn’t matter what a piece of glud it is. It is that issue of Cosmo/People/Us in the supermarket checkout line that infallibly extracts dollars from the curious when the more detached mind thinks “and you would pay money for that?”
Girls sure have changed from the 50’s and 60’s. I’m trying to imagine my grandmother going on a date with her beau to see a sadomasochist bondage movie . . . nope . . . just does not compute. Even my mother for that matter.
Because it is a film about a rich simp that showers money and gifts on a female. A “bad boy” with a bank account makes most women idiots.
Not at all surprising it didn’t cost much to make. I read somewhere that a full 20 minutes of the movie was sex scenes. Those are virtually ‘free’. lol
Can’t comment further, because I haven’t seen it, though my wife has read the books.
