Frequent saunas may boost survival, Finnish study suggests

CHICAGO (AP) — Frequent sauna baths may help you live longer, a study of Finnish men suggests. It would be welcome news if proven true — in Finland where hot, dry saunas are commonplace, and for Americans shivering in a snowy Nordic-like winter.

Previous research suggested that saunas might improve blood vessel function and exercise capacity, and lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. The new study links long, hot sauna baths with even more benefits, including fewer deaths from heart attacks, strokes, various heart-related conditions and other causes.

Nothing like a good sauna,, cook the body, sweat all kinds of crud out.. then hit the snow bank or cold shower.. repeat 'til thoroughly cooked.

Love them. Do not, however, enter one with a Korean feller sweating off a kimchi and sake hangover. Trust me.

The statement about lowering blood pressure is perfectly true in the long run. However, 20 minutes in a hot sauna followed by a roll in the snow will spike your BP like a rocket launch. And it felt good, too.

never seen anyone spontaneously combust in a sauna, he sounded like a good candidate.

it must blow the grease out of the valves, had a cardiac test recently, the doc said the old ticker looked real good.

the japanese got me started on hot baths btw. ;-)

Nice visual, but not a dry sauna - as the subject of the picture is dipping water to create steam...a no-no in a dry sauna.

I suspect that it’s like a short fever that may kill off some bugs.

I deem this study...

...inconclusive. More research needed.

Bought a two-person infrared sauna from Costco back in December during an online sale. It’s made of Canadian hemlock. Under $1,050.00 delivered. (Costco, yeah - love / hate)

I cannot say enough about how much I love it.. I cannot.
It will make your skin feel awesome..

A squeeze of juice from a 1/4 fresh lemon over your body every 10 or so minutes is wonderful. A hot shower (no soap) afterwards is the ticket..

110 VAC is all that’s required though a dedicated outlet which I have) is suggested.

The smell of the wood is heavenly.

175 is kinda cool for a sauna. I like it about 190 but my grandpa kept it over 200. But he was from Finland.
