Read This For Cancer Treatment (and prevention)

I am so sorry but perhaps copying paragraphs is not allowed on his blog because I can't grab some.

What we are talking about is a good decent layman explanation of the newest cancer studies, incorporating just what our gut bugs, I.e. Our immune system (pretty much the same thing, as will be explained), will do to help you fight cancer.

The most important thing for cancer patients to take away from this post is that before you undergo chemotherapy, you need gut bacteria testing. The makeup of your gut biome, if good, will allow the chemo to kill the cancer. It will kill YOU if the makeup is not good, so first you would need to eat the right fibers and starches to change your biome.

Please give it a look if you are interested in preventing cancer as well. Oncologists tend not to mention the gut bugs when as we are finding out, they are everything. Not just for cancer.

I am not blog pushing. Sometimes the most important info, dare I say Life or Death info, comes from individuals studying it and trying to make this I fo available to the general public. You won't find this in the mainstream media or in your oncologist's office.

Give this a minute or two of your time if you have cancer or know anyone who does. You can then adjust your diet a bit and save a life or two.

If you are a cranky FReeper who is upset I couldn't paste any here, ignore me. I am on an iPad at 6 am and I saw this and wanted to see if it might help any of my beloved FReepers suffering. It wouldn't let me copy it.

There is a cancer list on FR but I don’t know how to ping it. If anyone does, please do so. We are talking about our friends here; we want them alive. Anything that helps them helps us.

Prebiotics refer to indigestible food ingredients that selectively promote the colonization of healthy commensals such as the dietary fiber inulin that promotes Bifidobacteria growth. More specifically, cancer-preventive antioxidants include dietary polyphenols (flavonoids, phenolic acids, lignins present in tea, wine, nuts, fruits, and so on, and ellagic acid metabolized by colonic microbiota into urolithins exhibiting antiestrogenic and anti-COX2 activities). Another polyphenol called ‘daidzein’, a soy isoflavone metabolized by gut microbiota into equol and only detected in a fraction of individuals (harboring sulfate-reducing bacteria), may protect against breast and prostate cancer, mostly in Asia. The fiber has been involved in the prevention of colorectal cancers and butyrate, one of the most abundant short-chain fatty acids resulting from the bacterial fermentation of fibers and selectively transported into the colon epithelium is the most compelling tumor-suppressive molecule.

Butyrate has both cell autonomous and cell extrinsic antitumor effects. It decreases proliferation and promotes apoptosis of tumor cells, ameliorates inflammation associated with colitis and favor expansion of peripheral Treg. Most of these effects result from epigenetic regulation, butyrate acting as an endogenous HDAC inhibitor.

Moreover, the intestinal microbiota can also influence systemic immune responses. A recent work highlighted the role of certain metabolites (short-chain fatty acid butyrate and to a lesser extent propionate) produced by commensal bacteria in dictating the extrathymic differentiation of periph- eral regulatory T cells. Butyrate acts within T cells to enhance acetylation of the Foxp3 locus and protein, as well as DCs to decrease their proinflammatory NF- k B-dependent cytokine secretion profile through an HDAC inhibitory activity.

Thank you. With the oncoming rationing of health care under Obama, it’s more important than ever to be your own advocate and be healthy.

Yaelle, as both a cancer survivor and a healthcare professional, I believe I am correct in saying that your post is somewhat misleading. Immuno-oncology is an exciting new field, and while consideration for one's immune system can be one approach, it's not only about the immune system. The immune system has to be triggered by drugs to build additional antibodies that target the specific cancer.

While it's good to have and promote a healthy immune system, no one can predict what cancer they may or may not get in the future. It's quite possible that an immuno-therapy might work for some cancers but not for others.

Please do not promote "cures" or offer hope to would-be patients without scientific proof.

There’s also a relation to intake of minerals into the diet. Many point to the benefits of an ‘alkaline diet’, but I believe it’s more comprehensive than that:

A combination of ‘gut flora’, balanced diet including proper mineral intake (difficult with store-bought vegetables), elimination of processed foods and man-made compounds that cause inflammation in the body...I believe all contribute to being overwhelmingly healthy. PH test strips are just one measure of the balance. One footnote: Avoid all pharmaceuticals if possible.

My own health problems have been eliminated by following the prior. And coming to FR and getting engaged by some vapid, alinsky-ish freepers promotes regularity, too.
Win-win.

...healthcare professional....

Beg pardon, but the OP is NOT being misleading. I read the post & comments.

The tone of your comment and your background leave me suspect of your agenda. But that's Ok; you have your own opinion, too.

But that's Ok; you have your own opinion, too.

And given that FreeRepublic is a form of social media, different opinions are still allowed to be shared here, correct?

I have no agenda, other than for the full picture to be given to patients and others who may be interested. I read the blog posting too, and there's a lot of conjecture and speculation using quasi-scientific terms. If the blog poster wants to be taken seriously, write a clinical protocol, conduct a trial, and publish the results. Otherwise, it's anecdotal.
