Sleep a lot? You might have a heightened risk of stroke, study says
latimes.com ^ | Karen Kaplan

Posted on 02/26/2015 6:39:55 PM PST by BenLurkin

When the study participants were examined according to age, the researchers found that sleeping for more than eight hours a night increased stroke risk only for people who were at least 63 years old. On the flip side, they found that sleeping for less than six hours a night heightened stroke risk for younger people more than for older people.

Finally, they discovered that “short” sleepers were more at risk for an ischemic stroke (the kind caused by a clot that blocks blood flow to the brain) while “long” sleepers were more at risk for a hemorrhagic stroke (the kind caused by a ruptured blood vessel bleeds into the brain).

I get lots of sleep so I guess that means Im a dead duck

Either that, or your body sleeps that much because that is exactly what it needs.

.
Don’t worry about a stroke unless you’re taking drugs.

I often sleep 12 - 14 hours.

Actually, it is hard to get 'too much' sleep. The magnificent nervous system of the body actually sends out tranquilizers to various muscles and desensitizers to the skin. You are in essence, paralyzed. The body does this to keep you from being awakened through tactile sensation and to keep you from physically acting out your dreams. This is why, in your dreams, you often feel like you can't move. It's because you can't.

The drug flow/signal to keep you asleep is shut off when the 'body' (brain, central nervous system, subconscious) decides it is done sleeping or is interrupted by external sources (alarm clock/noise/etc).

What is even more interesting is that you can tell your subconscious exactly what time to wake you up. As long as you don't deprive it of normal sleep periods, it will wake you up accurately.

We are more than we know.

The body/mind can adjust to shorter sleep periods. What it cannot tolerate is no sleep.

I’m lucky if I get 5 hours a night.

Do you wake up after 5 hours, or does something wake you up ?

I don’t go sleep for hours so my problem is at the beginning, not the end.

I’ve even watched “Red Eye”.

Hi,onyx,

Im not as extreme, but i stay up too late, then get up and late morning I eat, carbs and sugar...then I’m down for the count for a lunchtime quick nap... This is on days when I’m at home. Its really not a very efficient sleeping schedule.

I need to immediately go outside for a walk at least after eating...its been so cold here though!

Sorry for the lack of caps, etc....on a tablet.

Sleep too much, you die. Sleep too little, you die. You sleep, you die. You don’t sleep, you die.

******

I must have misunderstood the poster's message. I thought he said that ObamaCare will cause you to have a stroke no matter how many hours you sleep every night. Oh, well.
