I had a Spiratone motorized color print processor. Still have it somewhere, but I doubt it will ever be used again.

Spiratone was the Skymall for photographers. Tons of odd, useful and sometimes absurd things.

"They do not duplicate the feel of being in a darkroom for hours, alone in your thoughts, creating. There is no smell of the chemicals or the quiet darkness. It’s just not the same."

Yeah, me too.

Has any digital-anything come even close to B&W film in terms of image quality?

You’ve been taking pictures for a long time, I guess.

Loooong hiatus in the middle. Didn’t do much until I retired.

Yes. In terms of resolution it has. It's still different, primary difference is what happens at the highlights, the shoulder of the curve. Film tails off, digital just stops...

The look is different though there are ways to decrease the difference. I still like film, but the workflow differences and speed converted me over to digital. It's a tradeoff. And, they're stopping making film and supplies.

My high school had a darkroom just off the chemistry lab. Those of us in the Audiovisual Club (we ran the projectors and tape recorders when a teacher needed one in a classroom) were allowed to use the darkroom. I well remember the chemicals, the red safelight, the and all the rest.
