Milk takes 2nd place in the Vic Morrow exact wrong place at the exact wrong time award. For years I bought the gay martyr BS story that Milk was targeted by Dan White because of who he was. Decided to read further and found out that Milk was shot just because he didn’t stay in his office and went to see what was happening. Whoever came on the scene at that time would have been shot. Most likely had Milk stayed put, he would have come through that day alive. White wasn’t looking for him.
Even if it is a myth (the voter registration records from that era are long gone, I am sure), the “modern” democrats have manipulated the narrative so much that people FORGET that The Republican Party represented Civil Rights legislation, Lincoln, Freedom, the Emancipation Proclamation, etc.
The democrat party, on the other hand, represented the “Dixiecrats”, Jim Crow, the KKK, and the Vietnam War.
I am old enough to remember (But so so old as to forget) Bull Connor, Lester Maddox, George Wallace, and the 1968 Convention, all democrats.
I was just a kid at the time, but I remember Nixon running as a “Peace” Candidate. Not as extreme as McGovern or McCarthy, but definitely as a repudiation of the policies of LBJ.
So, the perception of MLK as a Republican is not as far fetched as it would seem by today’s sensibilities.
If it is a myth...so be it. But it would have made sense at the time.
I wouldn’t doubt that the cliche of the “Troubled and Dangerous Vietnam Vet” may have sprung from this unfortunate incident as well.

So, Job Disputes, Drug Deals Gone Bad, and other vicissitudes of life become “cause celeb” if any of the participants happen to be homosexual.
Unlike the color of one’s skin, religion or sexual orientation are not immediately obvious to the casual observer, unless of the course, if a person displays behavior and mannerisms that are stereotypical. Behavior (such as wearing a BIG Cross or Star of David, or loudly saying grace in a restaurant), will certainly identify you by religion, and mannerisms and speech patterns could cause others to perceive homosexuality.
However THOSE things are the Choice of the individual, and so one has to be responsible for one’s choices in life.
