Hegel died in 1831. Darwin published “Origins of the Species” in 1859. Hegel was influenced by various strains of Enlightenment and Romantic thought including Kant, and Rousseau. I enjoy learning about the Victorian Era. Darwin’s theory when it came out was used as some sort of scientific proof of all the various systems of political-economic thought around during that era from extreme Laissez Faire to communism/socialism.
Great post - thanks.
I will never cease to wonder how self-proclaimed "materialists" or people who deny the existence of absolute moral truth are the most dogmatic of moral crusaders. Perhaps deep down inside they continue to believe in a "world soul."
Excellent article - illuminates the pedigree of the ideas of those who would reduce us all to things, animals or machines. It’s the key to the justification of slaughter, slavery, mass murder and atrocity.
