Anglo-Saxon cow bile and garlic potion kills MRSA
Telegraph UK ^ | 3/30/15 | Sarah Knapton

A thousand-year-old medieval remedy for eye infections which was discovered in a manuscript in the British Library has been found to kill the superbug MRSA.

Anglo-Saxon expert Dr Christina Lee, from the School of English, at Nottingham University, recreated the 10th century potion to see if it really worked as an antibacterial remedy.

The 'eyesalve' recipe calls for two species of Allium (garlic and onion or leek), wine and oxgall (bile from a cow’s stomach).

It describes a very specific method of making the topical solution including the use of a brass vessel to brew it, a strainer to purify it and an instruction to leave the mixture for nine days before use.

None of the experts really expected the concoction to work. But when it was tested, microbiologists were amazed to find that not only did the salve clear up styes, but it also tackled the deadly superbug MRSA, which is resistant to many antibiotics.

“We were genuinely astonished at the results of our experiments in the lab,” said Dr Lee.

"I usually start at twelve."

12 olives? That could be a deep glass of vodka depending on how you stacked them.

Alright - an olden medical procedure that didn’t entail bleeding a person out or leeches (I know leeches have valid medical uses in today’s world though).

I doubt a significant amount leached, but surface contact alone would be a potent antiseptic.

“Brasses demonstrate bactericidal efficacies, but within a somewhat longer time frame than pure copper. All nine brasses tested were almost completely bactericidal (over 99.9% kill rate) at 20°C (68°F) within 60–270 minutes.”

Maybe that’s why when referring to doctors they say: “Medical practice”.

>> MRSA is not viral <<

Detail, details, nit-picking details.

At this point, “What difference does it make?”

You should not pee or wash your hair within 50 feet of a natural body of water—stream or lake.

Regarding natural cures. I noticed green mold growing on an elderly orange. Then I remembered that most germs prefer and alkaline environment, but the orange was acid. Did some research and found the green mold was a penicillin. Rubbed a little on a pimple and it cleared right up. Good to remember if we ever have a major disaster. Grow penicillin on citrus fruit. Also, put a drop of iodine in a glass of water and let it sit for half an hour, then drink safely. Learned that from a guy in the Peace Corp. Did that with the drinking water in cafes on a trip through Central America. Never go the runs. Remember hearing about all the people desperate for water after Hurricane Andrew. If they had iodine, then no problem. Strain water through cloth, then treat with iodine and wait a half hour. Chlorine bleach works too. I just don’t know the amount.

Google high dosage Vitamin C treatment for cancer. Also if interested for Ebola. They are not talking about RDA of 60mg. or Vitamin C tablets of 1,000 mg. or 1 gram. They are saying 100 to 200 grams, some or all intravenous.

On a wilderness campout I once treated a woman stung by three yellow jackets in the neck and shoulder. She had forgotten her allergy kit. Her whole body was puffy and her eyes were swollen shut, she could hardly breathe when I came along. I immediately gave her 10 1,000 mg. Vitamin C tablets. It was a long time ago, but I think I crushed them and mixed with water so she could swallow. Within 15 minutes the swelling was reduced, she could see and breathe. I stayed with her for the next 8 hours and over that time gave her a total of 40 grams of C. She felt a lot better and I left her with additional C, to use as needed. I was told she walked out the next day.

Colloidal silver also has a good reputation against bacteria. Many years ago when I was a child, when I was sick my doctor used to dip something like a fat Q tip into a product called Argerol, have me lay down and put them in my nostrils for 10 minutes. I think this was to keep me from getting a strep throat or an ear infection.
