According to Dr Saidi, 60% of couples end their engagements after receiving their results, which he says is a sign of success. "The high percentage of failed engagements due to medical risks shows that the society has become more educated and aware of the importance of physical health," he says. "This will also save money for the family and the country." In January, a Riyadh-based genetic researcher said Saudi Arabia has one of the highest rates of genetic diseases in the world. Pre-marital health tests aim to prevent marriages between close relatives - a longstanding practice in Saudi Arabia - which can lead to serious medical problems in offspring.

Wow, who would have thunk this. They have a tight group, no immigration, or exodus per se. A lot of inter marrying I am sure.

There is not much to do on those long nights in the desert. Of course, the goats are available, but they don’t show up in the genetic record.

Islam permits marriage between first cousins. (Judaism and Christianity do not.)

Add to that the desire to keep tribal wealth within the tribe (meaning, marriage within the tribe), and retain those practices for 80-100 generations,

and you have a massive problem with inbreeding and genetic inheritances.

Yes, the rules against incest are very loose in Islamic countries. As long as they are not your brother, sister, mother or father, it is game on.

Now that “marriage” means anything here, we can look forward to similar problems.

Saudis are not the only group that suffers under endogamy.

Funny. California allows 1st cousin marriage as do many other states.

Are you, for some reason, thinking that California is Christian?

From what I’ve read, more than half of the Saudi marriages are to first cousins. The rest of the Arab world is pretty much the same.

So of course their gene pool has been corrupted. It’s like marrying your half sister. This has been going on for 1400 years. You can’t fix it.

That’s why they are crazy. At this point they need to all be sterilized to protect the genes of the rest of the world.

If we could hack their system, tell them all they are all related, then we could eliminate that cesspool in one generation.

The husband is required to give the wife (more like the bride’s family) a “bride price”. If he marries his paternal first cousin, the money stays in the family.

Not at all. But, some states due not allow such marriages, and that is perfectly legal...correct? It seems that such action of not recognizing a ‘marriage’ would allow states to not recognize gay ‘marriages’.
