Jesus Christ was not a real person and is probably the result of a combination of stories about several different individuals, according to a writer and leading atheist activist.
David Fitzgerald, a San Francisco based author, believes he has compiled compelling evidence that proves Jesus did not exist.
He claims there are no contemporary mentions of Jesus in historical accounts from the time when he was supposed to have lived, yet other Jewish sect leaders from the time do appear.

This issue is not historical facts, but whether one believes Jesus is the Christ. Be honest and say you do not believe in GOD reveal in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Don't cover you unbelief and rejection with an argument that GOD does not exist.
The problem with that argument is that there are many ways to be wrong.
What if the Muslims are right? Then Christians are damned.
What if some small sect is right, like the Jehovah’s Witnesses? Then the rest of us are damned.
At least if the Hindus are right, we get a do-over. And if the Mormons are right, at least we go to heaven even we don’t get to be gods.

There are more writings about Jesus by EYEWITNESSES, corroborated by OTHER eyewitnesses within their lifetimes than we have of Plato, Socrates and Julius Caesar.

Either the yobbos are SO dummmmb that they have to create a fictional ‘god’ or the ‘tale’ is SO complex and has been SO well-orchestrated by thousands of people over thousands of years.. Can’t have it both ways.

Note that its not that they simply don’t believe Jesus is the son of God, but rather that he ‘came in the flesh’ that he even existed at all.
At the time of the end, we’re told in Revelation Chapter 9 these are the ones that will seek death but not be able to find it, desire to die, but death will flee from them.
“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12
Nowhere in the Word does it argue for itself that God exists, its a given, we’re told that we should believe from the things that are:

This is a spiritual deception, being blinded, seeing only in the flesh, the natural world,
It’s not so much what you don’t know that will get you in trouble. It’s what you know that ain’t so. When Jesus returns, you’re going to find out in a shocking way that what you thought about Him wasn’t so.
Too many people went to their death believing in Jesus.

This premise works for any historical figure, it does not make the writer correct, it makes him an illogical fool. The Paul Revere composite took a lot of ale to come up with that tale.
The hole in your position is created around a lack of relationship or desire to be with God instead of an intellectual pursuit of the best expression of God. Seek God and you will find him. To speak of God is endless.
That is what diferentiates the religions. Mormanism seeks to be god, hinduism seeks to appease god, islam seeks to please god, jws seek to earn their way, but true christians seek to love God.
Yes there are many flavors of christians leading many ways to camoflage the path. But the real question is what is your motivation? That is how you differentiate the path.
Examine your motivation, is it about you, or is it about Him?
Is David Fitzgerald gay? If indeed he is real, and not some composite of fractured characters glued together to write this anti Christian diatribe, he is probably a victim of moral confusion and self loathing. Why? Well, there are plenty of examples of failures to believe hiding behind intellectual excuses. Dig deep enough, and all those research fragments of half honest attempts to discredit Christ find their beginnings in moral problems.

Actually, I'm reading this author's (Fitzgerald's) pdf Ten Myths About Jesus right now, and there's nothing like that. He's saying there are only 2 references to Jesus, and that one is largely regarded as a 4th century forgery, while the other is authentic, but is about a different Jesus (a high priest who was given a political post as compensation when his brother was murdered by the post's previous holder.)
He was born decades after Jesus died.
The problem is none of the witnesses are reliable.
Mohammed was an evil guy who would “abrogate” his teachings whenever they became inconvenient for him.
JW’s were an end of the world cult that kept going after the world didn’t end, and they published their own “bible” that was “translated” by people who wouldn’t pass a 1st-year Greek of Hebrew course. They did their best to make it say what they wanted it to say, but they still didn’t purge all of the inconvenient passages.
Mormons allegedly received their scripture from an angel, despite the NT warning about accepting another gospel, even if it came from an angel (Galatians 1). They were delivered on golden disks that can’t be found, translated from “new Egyptian” that doesn’t exist, and in parts copied whole sections from the OT. (It was amazing how Smith’s translation from New Egyptian was an exact match with the KJV.)
Speaking of many way to be wrong, the Hindus have more of them than all others combined. Everything is right, even if it contradicts, and they like it that way and think it’s cool.
The “what if we’re wrong/what if you’re wrong” isn’t a great argument on its own, but given the credibility of the NT witnesses (and we can discuss that if you’d like) it’s certainly something to consider.
I recall reading a column decades ago which was reacting to someone back then claiming that Jesus never existed. The columnist's reaction was "if that's true then the Thirty Years War wasn't necessary."

I am a Christian, a serious one, I hope. I can’t claim any deep knowledge of other faiths, but Christianity seems true and good to me, and I was brought up by agnostics, albeit in a Christian culture. If I had been brought up in a different culture, it is quite possible that that faith would seem to be the true one to me.
The argument as it was presented was a bad one, and it is because I love my faith and hope that others will find salvation in it, that I don’t want it presented simplistically, and subject to simplistic refutation, and contempt.
As you say, if you go deeper, the question is “What is true? And what do you lose if you do not seek and follow that truth? What do you gain if you do?”
