The Army made her feel “like a joke” — but they couldn’t keep her silent.
Chelsea Manning — formerly known as Bradley E. Manning — the ex-Army intelligence analyst sentenced to 35 years for leaking a treasure trove of secret documents to WikiLeaks, has given her first public interview with the press from military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Speaking through the mail to Cosmopolitan magazine, Manning opened up about her recent experience behind bars and her lifelong desire to live as a woman.
“I don’t know how [this struggle] shaped my life and who I am, but it’s absolutely a factor in the decisions that I made before and including when I enlisted in the Army,” she explained.

In the early 1970s I heard an interesting short comment from a senior master sergeant who had just had his first encounter with a newly minted second lieutenant who had provided the E8 with “direction”. The comment was: “Another dickless wonder speaks.”

I went through Basic COMBAT Training (as it was then called) at Ft Leonard Wood also, during the hot Summer of 1978. I had not been an athlete in high school nor someone who exercised and I’ll bet my basic was much rougher than his. I had no big problem getting through it and went on to be an intelligence analyst, just like this criminal.
Living proof why, in the past at least, anyone considering gender switching surgery had to go through tons of psych exams. To rule out they are essentially crazy, and truly establish their “brain state” as male or female.

Our daughter enjoyed Marine boot camp also. She would tell me about how fun it was crawling through the mud, under concertina wire, carrying the weapon. She never once called it humiliation. She said parts were tough and some of the punishments intense like 300 push ups in the 100+ heat and high humidity of Parris Island with the mosquitoes biting every part of you while the DI hosed down the sand to make it that much harder, but she never said she was humiliated.
As far as Chelsea, maybe she should compare stories with Brucette (or whatever her name is now) Jenner.

Yes it was. So was firing the M-60 and the LAW rocket. Our senior student at AIT was a former Green Beret who ran us about 20 miles a day. Much harder than basic. But my AIT was coed, so it was quite interesting.
When are this special little snowflake’s 15 minutes of fame going to be up? Manning’s an ate-up little freak who betrayed his country. Nothing’s gonna change that, whether he’s male, female, or Klingon.
The only thing I still want to know about Manning is why he was reclaimed from the discharge unit during basic training (I think that is what it is called), and why previous infractions weren’t enough to get him out of a sensitive posting. This guy was bad news from day one.
