I got this game for Christmas back in 1988, and brought it to school to play with it during our indoor recesses. No freak out whatsoever.
The original 80s Transformers Megatron could NEVER be sold today. I dont think you can even easily get a reproduction.

It used to be we saw a little kid with a toy gun; today we see a GUN!I think instead of bringing down restrictions on gun owners, they ought to bring restrictions on toy gun manufacturers. I once had to call police because there was an Uzi in my private parking space, and I didn't want to touch and fingerprint it. They came and retrieved it from under the car, and it was an exact plastic replica. I had not been able to tell the difference in the evening light. I apologized for bringing them out, but they said it was the right thing to have done.
I have nothing against kids learning to shoot real guns or playing with toy guns or even pop-tart pastry guns. But if restrictions have to come down the line to make the panty-wetters happy, all toy guns should be frankly fake, like translucent day-glo orange or yellow. No one would be able to buy a realistic fake. You would have to be over 18 to rent a realistic replica from a costume store, say if you were appearing in a college drama as a soldier or cop, and present full I.D. and leave a deposit.

You’re so right.
Kids can’t even be kids today. They’re under attack from day one.

I was amazed at how many I’d accumulated when it came time to give them away to younger cousins and friends, after getting my Mossberg 144LS .22 and doing NRA competition in our BSA summer camp.

@2:28 in the vid, the kid with the gun-shaped Pop Tart who dared to say “bang bang”, if this kid claimed to be transgendered the school would’ve treated him like royalty and would not dare to mention a psych eval, let alone suspension.

It breaks down to first impressions we have of a situation; which registers on our mind first the kid or the gun. We are being told that a gun is an evil unto itself.

I've had a few toy guns in my childhood, on a related note my main interest was Machbox cars, I have the military vehicles in my collection like these:
The one on the top right is a replica of the Saracen Personnel Carrier considered a workhorse of the old South African Army during apartheid. It was very instrumental during the Namibian War of independence as well as the Soweto Uprising and other anti-aparheid incidents. If I were in public school today, besides being looked upon as a potential security risk, would I also be labelled a racist? As elRushbo would say, demonstrating absurdity by being absurd.

Damn. I never had that one. I had everything from the original PS and Tonka trucks but that kicks ass. Ah well, I played with my dad’s old Garand from his ROTC days so my childhood wasn’t all that sucky.

Yes, but they do pop up on eBay from time to time. Nedless to say the ones in mint condition in the original boxes bring in huge $$$.

Me and my friends would play “cowboys and Indians” (VERY unPC today) or shoot water pistols at each other. Our parents would strongly admonish us to never so much as aim our toy guns at strangers or the police, it was more a matter of good behavior and respect for our elders.

Nice collection. I had a collection of die-cast metal military ones - think, but not sure, they were Dinky Toys - in the late 50s, to go with my 14’x16’ Lionel train trestle table, running multiple trains thru villages and towns.
