Ann Arbor schools bans guns with new policies

If anyone but a law enforcement official carries a gun into an Ann Arbor school, administrators will ask the person to leave and call the police.

Under a new policy, a weapon such as a gun in a school constitutes an emergency.

The Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education on Wednesday, April 15, unanimously voted to ban dangerous weapons, including guns, from school buildings and property.

The vote approved three policies that outline the superintendent's ability to be able to close schools, cancel buses or student and staff events before, during and after school in the case of an emergency.

Law enforcement officials including retired judges are exempt.

State law bans guns in schools, but concealed pistol license holders can openly carry guns in schools.

I suspect this will fall as soon as its tested. The michigan courts have repeatedly ruled that cities can't make their own anti gun ordinances. In this case, liberals are declaring that the cause of their irrational fear is a disturbance.

A lot of States have superiority laws that keep crap like this from happening. Usually to keep cities, counties and municipalities from abridging the rights of their citizens.

I see a school, district or board as nothing more than a governmental entity whose ability to establish and enforce rules is ruled by the same restriction.

If I were governor of that state, I’d be investigating how I could remove the school board, frankly.

Public school officials need to be in prison for the policies they keep making.

Our state constitution has superiority over municipalities in these situations and has been repeatedly tested by cities attempting to impose anti gun ordinances.

In this case, the school board is trying to declare the gun to be a disturbance but as you can see from the original story, irrational panic was the ultimate cause of the disturbance.

Yeah, that’ll work.

Parents: take your kids out of school until this is repealed.

Either that or the school could privatize and stop taking taxpayer dollars.

To me couching the banning of guns under the guise of a “disturbance” has no merit when it is only guns the rule deals with. It would fit my definition of constructive gun control.

Nothing quite like openly declaring your school is a target rich environment with no chance of counter attack.

I’d not send my kids there. That place is a death trap!

In this case, the “disturbance” was caused by one panicked teacher.

It was funny because the idiot was apparently posting the events as they happened on facebook. He was pretty smug when police approached the guy and took him out of the building but was livid when the guy returned to his seat a few minutes later with his gun still on his hip.

The only “gun control” the citizens is two hands, and hitting the target only with the first shot. All other violates my rights.

We need to eliminate the open or concealed designation.

Its an oddity that an open carrier can’t carry in a school but a concealed carrier can but he must carry openly.

This teacher’s attitudes needs to be plastered all over the internet, especially for the parents whose children are taught by him/her.

He’s been living in the area for years but recently moved into the city to be closer to his liberal friends apparently.

Yes. All that double speak within the law is bovine excrement. We need constitutional carry in Michigan. No fees, no permission, no gubmint interference.
