Congressman Pete King (R-NY) supports the Yankees’ refusal to celebrate as Alex Rodriguez approaches a historic baseball milestone, pulling within two home runs of Willie Mays on the career home runs list.
“I think they’re right, because it’s obvious that so many of his home runs were tainted,” King told TMZ Sports. “I think it would be wrong to be celebrating ... since for all we know, hundreds of those home runs probably occurred when he was taking steroids."
Rodriguez, who is not in the lineup for Thursday's afternoon game against the Tigers, has hit 658 dingers compared with Mays’ 660 – but without the needles and syringes, A-Rod would probably still have a long way to go.
At least 220 of A-Rod’s career homers came during six seasons that he is known to have been steadily abusing muscle-building drugs that added oomph to his swing. Many more came in seasons where his accomplishments are under suspicion for his close association with a banned strength trainer and a Canadian doctor convicted of drug offenses.
That helps explain why the Yankees will refuse to pay A-Rod a bonus they once agreed upon should he match Mays at No. 4 on the list. Take away the tainted round-trippers, and Rodriguez is way down the list (albeit behind a lot of other proven dopers from the Steroid Era).
A-Rod’s dirtiest seasons can be broken down into two categories: the ‘Boli years (2001-03) – when Rodriguez was using Dominican steroids with his cousin, Yuri Sucart – and the Biogenesis years (2010-12), when he was scoring his drugs from the clinic of Anthony Bosch, who is now in prison for drug distribution.

absolutely Rose does not have to be permitted to work in MLB, but his records are HIS....honest, and without drugs or gambling. what he did as a manager was wrong but should not affect his being lauded as the great he was.

King is a blowhard. He is NO conservative and should be replaced by his constituency.
Not only that but how many games were played during the season Willy Mays played in? Same with Babe Ruth. They played fewer games back then and now more are played which gives today’s hitters more games to make or break a record. It should be game for game.
Babe Ruth played when they had a154 game season. Willie Mays played about half his career when they had a 154 game season, and about half after the schedule expanded to the current 162 game season.
There are other factors too. Babe played all day games. Babe didn’t face multiple relief pitchers in one game the way hitters do now. Willie didn’t face ninth inning “closer”,relief pitchers, as baseball teams didn’t use relief pitchers that way when he played.
Everyone of ARod's homeruns should count just as everyone else's stat that has played the game for the past 25 years.
