PEOPLE have been raving about the Apple Watch, so it is probably time for a rant from a devil’s advocate.
For starters, Apple’s smartwatch is neat, but that might be the only thing it has going for it. If the product’s intended function is providing you with around-the-clock health information, then there are a lot of roadblocks that need to be addressed.

Questions first:
1. If you don't wear a watch now, why don't you wear a watch, and what would possess you to wear a piece of crap Apple watch with no style and its obvious drawbacks listed here?
2. If you don't have a phone but want the watch, why would you want to buy both a watch AND phone just to tell time, what your pulse is, and who's calling you on the DICK TRACY line?
3. Do you like being chained to yet another useless accessory with the same functionality as what you already have on your phone?
4. What's with the supposed "panache" of this watch that would make you believe you look handsome in its gender-neutral Tim Cook-style excuse for jewelry?
5. Why would you buy this knowing Apple could axe it any time based on lack of profitability, an obvious admission by Apple itself? After all they failed to provide sufficient flagship supply, and expect overall portfolio sales projections to be low compared to their one-trick product, the iPhone. All accessories revolve around this single device anyway.
Buy one and support that 8 0cent an hour wage overseas.
I’d like to see it go down in flames just so that flamer Timmy Cook does too.
Hate Apple as I think ti is such a rip off.
ON my Samsung I can down load movies, music etc for free. With Apple you have to sign up and register and then pay.
Samsung is much easier anyway and Apple lives on the past positives.
People who support this kind of product are “Hope and Change” Marxist liberals.

Don’t wear a watch now and this or any other current smart watch is going to change that.
I read somewhere that the Apple watch can check heartbeat and other body stats; I don’t think it can do blood pressure unless there’s some technology besides the normal cuff. I wonder if it could do saturation of oxygen, that would be useful.
People are going to buy this thing, I seriously doubt people that love their gadgets are going to pass this or competing smart watches up. It does look too big but if the complaint is the screen is too small for too much information, how can you then complain it’s too bulky?
Let’s hear what people say after having it for a month for whether it’s a fad or not.

My Timex hasn’t need a recharge. Ever. Going on 30 years.
I don’t see me buying an A-Watch but I’m just not an “early adopter” on most things. Also, in all things technology, never buy v1.0. If somebody wants to give me stuff to beta-test, that’ all good but not on my dime.
Apple’s mistake with the Watch was calling it a watch imo. Athough it’s probably not the best idea to invest in the first version of anything that is introduced to the market, for many people the Apple Watch will be a more ergonomically correct front-end for the iPhone.
As such, even the reviewers can't quite figure out what to do with it, either.
It's functionality is irrelevant to it's true purpose.
The last thing I need are more tech trinkets, gadgets and apparatus with unneeded endless bells and whistles I don’t need or want.
I’m no longer impressed with all this garbage.
Radically different from the dozens of other offerings? Like Samsung, Motorola, Pebble, LG, Microsoft, etc.?
They all do (or did) the similar things. Not sure what’s so radical about “it’s a toy and doesn’t sell, even after 20 years of development”.
Answers to you:
1. I don’t wear a watch because just repairing my preferred one will cost a significant percentage of the Apple Watch - only to provide me with nothing more than the time, and that as inaccurately as I set it. I look forward to wearing a watch built to Apple’s consistently high & stylish standards. The “drawbacks” are BS (addressed below).
2. If you don’t have an iPhone, the Watch is not for you. Get that thru your thick skull. It’s an extension of the iPhone just as the iPod was an extension of the computer.
3. Hardly useless. Constant health monitoring (where that’s going will absolutely blow your mind when it arrives), at-a-glance notifications, easy payment/tickets/keys/etc, other quick checks ... all without freeing up a hand and digging out the phone. If that’s useless to you, nobody is compelling you to buy one; several million people disagree with you, and are voting with their wallets - and are free to do so independent of your opinion.
4. I’m not wearing it because it’s elegant. I’ll wear it because it’s USEFUL to the tune of worth $0.50/day.

1. Golly, I get just 14 hours of battery life out of it under heavy use. Like the iPhone: if I use it so much it dies before recharging, I _really_ need to go do something else. The clock function will still work (for 3 days), so it’s not like it’s completely useless - it will work as a watch, just as my costs-more just-a-watch watch does.
2. Yes, the screen is about 1”. So? that’s enough for a “retina” screen to show what I need of it. Need something bigger? oh, right, there’s an iPhone in my pocket.
3. Ok, it’s thicker than what it will be in a few years. It’s still not particularly thick. Yes, I’ve worn one.
4. Golly, it takes a little effort to configure. Golly, you’ll have to get used to being notified of things more often. Hey, I’m a computer engineer of some 30 years - I think I can handle the raging complexity.
5. Oh, sure, it could be a flop. iPhone and iPad were likewise threatened with possible failure. Then again - unlike the author’s disingenuous stats - it sold about two million copies in one day flat, basically more than all “smartwatches” ever sold. My SWAG indicates Apple will enjoy at least $20B in revenue from this thing this year alone. Sure it won’t be perfect, but - having tried one - I can say it sure isn’t Newton redux.
Yet you feel compelled to tell us about your disinterest...
Ya know, it’s OK that Apple hasn’t completely figured out what to do with this thing. That’s what’s great about new platforms: customers can figure that out. As an app writer, I’m excited to see what can be done with this. People didn’t know quite what to do with the iPhone at first either, but the results indicate pulling that stunt again is probably a profitable idea.
Well...I am.
