On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of "Goodfellas" this year, the Daily News has compiled a list of 25 things every movie nut should know about the classic gangster flick, which is being honored on the closing night of The Tribeca Film Festival Saturday.
To celebrate, the cast of the Martin Scorsese movie will reunite and participate in a sit-down conversation hosted by Jon Stewart.
The violent, profane and often funny film, based on Nicholas Pileggi's book "Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family," featured several cameos by the story's real-life characters, and is revered by movie fans for its colorful dialogue and memorable lines.
Now go home and get your shinebox .

Give me Janice Rossi in 2R.
You are correct. I read that the character played by Tom Smothers was really based on Harry Reid.
To quote Dan Rather, it was over the top but true. I saw a documentary on Tony Spilotro of the Outfit and the events depicted in Casino were pretty much true. If you remember the hits at the end, the guy doing them was the real guy who Frank Vincent played in the movie.
Frankie Five Angels, Cheech, La Porte.
One dog’s looking one way, and other dog is looking the other way, and the guy is saying what do you want from me.
Poor thing.
It was not exactly a well kept secret in the neighborhood that Papa was storing some of the H in his basement (and probably cash) and soon after he went to prison there was a series of break ins at his home as local dope fiends looked for a quick score of what was believed to be at least 50 lbs of heroin.
Rumor has it one of the industrious burglars was caught breaking in and we never heard from him again.
The house he lived in is still there and it still has rumors of a king's ransom in drugs buried in the basement.
Vincent wound up getting murdered in prison.
I was there back in the day as a kid in elementary school.
Went to PS 100 which was across the street from the bar that was burned down.
Stacks Edwards used to hang out in front of a candy store called the “Goody Jar” on the corner.
He was overweight and used a cane to walk , not skinny like in the movie.
These mobsters kids were in my class, I hung out with them during school hours and after school and on weekends and in the summer at the rec center.
We all payed sports and table games.
Wasn’t until we got to mid teens that things started to get weird.
Then I got a job at 13 at the St. Johns diner on Lefferts Blvd. next the OTB.
Henry Hill was in all the time.
The Joe Pesci character was a total creepy loser especially when he killed the kid over that line. Got what he deserved in the end.
Joe Pesci in “Casino”...
Heheh.. he turned the EXACT same character into a movie career over and over again!
Same here. I always crack up at the scene before Hill gets busted where he’s worrying about the tomato sauce. He’s coked out of his mind, seeing helicopters, and worried about tomato sauce...
RE Heat: HELLACIOUS gun battle scene. Supposedly inspired the LA bank robbers two years later, don’t know if that’s true or not, but I read it.
RE Reservoir Dogs: Definitely up there on my scale as well.
RE Scarface: “Say hello t’ mah Li’l FREN!” It’s become iconic already....
Another good, albeit OLD flick, is “Public Enemy” with Cagney. The Depp version wasn’t bad, but that was based on John Dillinger (amazing how much Depp looked like him in that flick...)
Also: “The Roaring Twenties” with Bogie and Cagney...
Can this be the end of Rico?? ;-)
