“I can just imagine the new characters that theyll bring in to help sell them.”
The Charmin Bears.
I woulda thought that “progressive burger” was definitely an oxymoron, but I do believe “Kale Burger” would put the lie to that idea. With ideas like the Kale Burgers who needs to worry about what competitors are doing. McDonalds, welcome to six MORE consecutive quarters of falling sales!
Wendy’s is ok. It’s the wife’s favorite fast food burg joint, when an In-N-Out isn’t around.
In-N-Out is just not comparable to the bigger fast food chains. It’s a throw back to the original burger stands with a limited menu of fresh, real food. There’s a cool retro feel and as an employer, they get their pick of the local young crowd. And they have great T-Shirts.
I don't think progressives should like a kale burger, since kale was promoted in this country by Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. They'd probably like a, "living, breathing," burger.
Although I don’t eat at McDonald’s, I’ve been following their recent problems with fascination & finding a pattern among all these once-venerated, flagship places or companies (i.e. Sears, Procter & Gamble, etc.). They are groping for ways to stay relevant to a younger & more sophisticated demographic who has moved on to places in tune with their tastes.
It’s like a 50-year-old woman wearing a miniskirt. Don’t. Just don’t. Don’t try to be something you’re not (or no longer). And don’t try to be everything to everyone. McDonald’s will never be hip. They should return to their original image, like Disney.
This doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for improvement. Probably a facelift wouldn’t hurt. Improve the décor. And some of the ingredients. People (at least I) prefer food that is fresh & natural. Not froufrou. Not wildly creative. Just simple & well made. McD’s has to play on its strengths, not compete on its weaknesses.
I thought it was quicker than that!
Kale for breakfast?
Hey McDonalds, you’re heading in the wrong direction. Give us more cheezy greazy REAL beef on a bun for under $1 like we got when we were kids. Cut the kale...and political correctness crap.
Reading CEO Esterbtooks bio we find:
He’s English - strike one
He’s a CPA. - strike two
He played cricket - strike three
He talks progressive trying to cater to the Gwyneth Paltrow types who will never set foot in a Mickey D’s, while alienating his base.
And the new hypester Hamburgler looks like Chester the Molester.
Franchisees should revolt.
I’ve only had them twice, but they weren’t bad. Definitely a better option than other fast food burgers, if you don’t have an In n’ Out in the area.
McD’s food is just so BAAAAD (tasting and health-wise). I’m sad to see its downward spiral (although as a fitness trainer, I should be jumping for joy). It was a big part of my growing up in the sixties and early seventies. It was such a treat to go to McD’s...that was before there was a fast food restaurant (or two or three) on every corner.
Hamburgers, fries and milk shakes have kept them afloat for decades.

Yes, and their bottom line is reflecting that this is no longer true.
I don’t think kale is the answer, but the answer may be too obvious to grasp ... the places they are losing their market share to for the most part use fresher and identifiable ingredients.
Whatever it is that is placed between the two buns does not, in any way shape or form, look like the burger I have ground from a chuck roast, formed into a patty and placed on my grill (sometimes I like to brown them in a hot skillet and finish them in the oven).
You are correct, fast and tasty burgers and fries.. Keep the nuggets around. Kids love those.
maybe one salad or two..
but the rest of the shit can go.
