Humans won in the competition because of Douglas Polk and Bjorn Li, who are the world's top players. Polk said that they managed to win and beat the computers and it's a victory of humans.
Polk said, "We really managed to find some weaknesses in some of the ways it liked to play its hands, and we exploited some of those to build our lead". The lion's share of the $100,000 prize money was won by individual winner Bjorn Li of Hong Kong.

I will never understand how top poker players can identify exploitable weaknesses in such a relatively short period of time, and with such incomplete information. All, while not creating exploitable weaknesses of their own. It really is impressive.

When an IBM computer beat Grand Master Kasparov he asked for the same advantage the computer had in analyzing all past moves and was denied. If he had he would have smoked Big Blue.

One of the critical skills of humans is the ability to identify subtle patterns and apply intuition. This is a skill that will allow us to keep pace with AI - that combo is hard to program.

the computer had a tell?... Its CPU began to twitch every time it got a good hand? One of its vacuum tubes probably started blinking. Wait...do those fancy contraptions still have vacuum tubes?

Wait. You mean a computer game created by humans was beat by humans as well?
No way!! Now if you’ll excuse me, where’s my ticker tape parade and news headlines for my 18, 000 on Call of Duty?
