The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Happy Sunday OTR fans...it’s a steamy one today in Baltimore...

I’m calling tonight the 50/50 show with half good and half bad to questionable shows...Ozzie & Harriet (questionable, can’t remember if this follows the “the father is an idiot” family show formula)...Man Called X is fun...Escape is the strongest of the night and who can dislike a title of “He Who Rides the Tiger”...and am not expecting much from Options on graduation...

What say you?!

Hi, Vision! It’s steamy here on the MS Gulf Coast, too! How has your week been?

Ozzie and Harriet is one not to be missed.

Did you notice the name Alan Reed? He is best known as the original voice of Fred Flintstone, which shall become obvious when you first hear him!

Hey Gina, the week was kinda crazy. All these things around the house started to break or needed attention. It was a cluster muck. Other than that, life is good. The Preakness was rained on pretty badly but we have a shot at the triple crown.

The diet is still in effect but did make some pork steaks. Man I love these.

You? You have Memorial day off?

Oh, that’s a bummer, Vision! The first-world joys of home ownership! :-) I also forgot you’re on a diet. You could do the Atkins one with nothing but meat. :-/

I’m off on Memorial Day, but Keith isn’t, so it’s nothing. Baby back ribs on the grill, laundry, the usual Sunday.

Do you have any experience with artificial foliage? I've got some spots in the back that I'd like to green over and am looking at panels of ivy and boxwood. They can be expensive.

Does Alva Leigh send her regards?

Don't know who Alva is, but if she's into high humidity and heat, then it probably works.

Vision, I only know the same thing you do—that stuff is expensive, and the sun would probably bleach its color quickly. I’m more knowledgeable about real plants, and they’re much more affordable.

I am not sure if I linked you to this before, but five years ago the song "Skyline," written and performed by Alva Leigh, a MS recording artist, was used for a tourism campaign for the MS Gulf Coast.

You can hear the full song here.

Oh, that’s cool! I do remember those radio ads several years ago. The whole song is good! Thanks, Houmatt!
