'Everyone should wear flats': Emily Blunt on Cannes' rumored high-heels-only policy

Blunt addressed Tuesday's reported ban on women's flat shoes on the red carpet while speaking during a press conference for her film "Sicario," calling the move "very disappointing."

"Everyone should wear flats to be honest," Blunt said (via Variety). "We shouldn't be wearing high heels anyways. That's my point of view. I just prefer wearing Converse sneakers. That's very disappointing."

"Sicario" director Denis Villenueve agreed.

"As a sign of protest, Benicio [del Toro], Josh [Brolin] and I will walk the stairs in high heels tonight," he said — perhaps joking, perhaps not, about the show of solidarity.

The controversy was cobbled together Tuesday when Screen Daily reported that red-carpet security had put its foot down regarding appropriate footwear, turning away women who were wearing fancy flats instead of high heels.

Not that any of this matters. I'm just looking for an excuse to post Emily Blunt pics.

Hey, Emily?

I really don't understand why Emily and a few other big stars don't just show up in sneakers.

Turn them away?

Cannes will get enormously bad publicity for losing the presence of some major stars over some stupid little rule.

And the stars will be the toast of the town for their principled stand.

This is a no-brainer -- why on earth would ANYONE wear high-heels to this?

This sounds to me like a micro-aggression!

Down with the film industry.

Wow, they certainly have their priorities in order. That’s got to be one of the biggest problems on the world stage right now.

When reached for his opinion, President Obama stated that he fully supports the decision, whichever way it goes.

Because no LBGTQRSTUVWXYZ ever wore a beard...

Maybe she’s straight just catering to the bull dyke crowd for ticket sales. But heels sort of go with events like this. And no one forces her to attend. It’s like telling a man that a suit and tie are bad to wear at a wedding.

I’ve never worn heels, and I doubt if I ever will. It’s beyond me why they are even considered attractive.

There are perfectly nice flats that do not cause foot and leg damage. I stick with those.

Is she an Obama fan? Then she has absolutely no right to complain because obviously Islamo Nazism and their enslavement of women is perfectly acceptable to her. I’m going to say she is because it’s usually the Obama fans who scream the most about feminist issues while acting like crickets as Islamo Nazis rape little girls.

Oh yes, how about that, she has a crush on him......
