Grandma killed her grandkids’ cat, 4 kittens with hammer
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS ^ | May 20, 2015 | LEE MORAN

An Illinois granny savagely battered her grandchildren's cat and four kittens to death with a hammer after the youngsters refused to tidy their rooms, police said.

Josephine Bell allegedly threatened to "take away" the five defenseless animals after getting angry at the children's lack of cleanliness at the family's Godfrey home, reports KTVI.

The 71-year-old is then accused of carrying out her warning on Sunday night.

Bell was busted the next evening after her 13-year-old granddaughter opened her freezer to look for a snack and discovered her dead cat inside.

She texted another relative, who then called cops.

Madison County investigators arrived and Bell allegedly confessed to killing the pets and throwing the kittens in the garbage.

Occasionally you’ll run across someone who mouths lip service about God all the time, but who is completely unfamiliar with any of the Scriptures which tell of God’s love for His creation, and which instruct us to care for our animals.

They’re under the misguided impression that subduing the earth and its contents means one must look coldly upon innocent animal life, with no compassion...as though God made it for us to brutalize.

So it’s really ironic for these types to run around braying about God, when I would say they have no knowledge of His nature or His regard for His creation.

I’m not talking about hunting or meat-eating, BTW.

The irony of course is the importance of compassion for animals, exceeding the necessary compassion for a confused grandmother. In the biblical commands, only one exceeds the gravity of honor for parents. Placing animals above an elderly grandmother and having her arrested is the modern evidence of Romans 1 and worshipping the creation...

weird. But come on, these were animals. Called the COPS? Sheesh.

there are really serious laws, with strong penalties against animal cruelty.....by the way, start with animals and MANY graduate to human cruelty.....many.

I am willing to giving a grandmother the benefit of the doubt. Having your grandmother arrested is evidence of upside down compassion.

“Confused?” LOL

What evidence do you have that she was confused and didn’t know what she was doing? The article doesn’t even hint at that.

She was lucid enough to make the threat, get the hammer, and commit the act. She knew enough to put the carcass in the freezer. And she admitted guilt to the cops.

On the farm, unwanted day old kitts were drown. At the time, when I was a young squirt, I thought this was horrible....but this grannie takes the cake.

whoever ran the "farm" that you were on was a sadistic dolt....mildly....3 of my uncles had large farms in Wisconsin and I spent most of my summers at them all through my childhood....they all LOVED animals. What the hell is an unwanted kitten on a farm??????Cats keep down the rodent population and pretty much fend for themselves. I can remember squirting milk from a cow toward the cats who would come around at milking time....I never knew anyone stupid enough to kill an animal just because....never.

“My dad used to complain that on the farm it was his job to drown the kittens and puppies. I’m not sure that was true.”

I rented a cottage on a farm back in the 80’s. The cat would have a “litter” of one kitten. I said to the owner that was weird. “Yeah - my daughter lived most of her life thinking all cats just had one kitten. The rest go in a bag into the pond.”

On a farm one is doing all sorts of killing. I’m guessing a cat is viewed as something to keep the rodents down - not a pet. And you don’t need tons of cats for that.

I was surprised one time visiting a relative on a ranch. The cattle dog was amazing - herding cattle with just three legs - the other all mangled.

“What happened to the dog?”
“Stupid dog didn’t get out of the way of the cow”
“The vet couldn’t save it - Huh?”
“What vet?”

Such an important tool (the dog) on the ranch I would have thought they would have taken better care of it.

Of course neither of those is anything like killing them because your kids didn’t clean their room.

The confused part comes from the disturbing thing that she did, and she is 70. Weird grandmother, no doubt. Disturbed grandchildren that would call the cops on their grandmother.

American is getting weirder by the day. People who place a higher priority for animals than humans. No wonder the pro-life movement hit road blocks in the common culture.

We had a big mutt lose a leg to cancer at age 11. Amazing how they bounce back. One time a lady asked us how old our “puppy” was. We had to point out the missing leg to her!

"The confused part comes from the disturbing thing that she did, and she is 70."

In other words, you're talking out of your butt and making meaningless assumptions....assumptions which contradict the article's account.

My mother-in-law is seventy-one, and she's infinitely sharper than many women a third of her age. You wouldn't want to go up against her in a business negotiation, trust me. And there are plenty other people her age whose mental abilities are just fine.

" Weird grandmother, no doubt."

No. "Weird" is putting up Christmas decorations in July. Beating kittens to death with a hammer is depraved and shockingly brutal.

" Disturbed grandchildren that would call the cops on their grandmother."

I'd call the cops on her, too, but they'd probably end up taking me away after I got done with her.

"American is getting weirder by the day. People who place a higher priority for animals than humans. No wonder the pro-life movement hit road blocks in the common culture."

And there it is....the inevitable & ridiculous assertion that people must choose between loving animals and being pro-life, as though the two have anything to do with each other.

It isn't an either/or prospect.

Also present is the equally absurd accusation that loving animals means one is placing them above humans. This is simple thinking, produced by a simple mind.

I sincerely am sorry for the condition of your heart.

Or killing them and then putting them in the freezer where the kids would find it.

Thank you and God bless you.
