Oakland Cat Town Cafe Lowers Feline Euthanasia Rate

Oakland's Cat Town Cafe and Adoption Center is purring along nicely.

According to Inside Scoop SF, the combination coffee spot and kitty fostering hangout has succeeded in adopting out 184 cats since it opened in October, which has brought the euthanasia rate at partner organization Oakland Animal Services down from 41 to 21 percent.

Those statistics may or may not take into account the most recent foster animal, Griffin, an orange and white cat who was one of the cafe's longest residents; he got fostered on Monday.

Cat Town Cafe's Saving Pets crowdfunding campaign has currently raised $29,232 to continue this nonprofit rescue mission.

I love cats. Got one on my laptop right now.

That I love cats does not make me faggy or sensitive.

I am not afraid to toss a cat when it walks up me. You know, climbs up my leg and torso in search of hugs and snacks.

I got kittens for Christmas. I now want to phase them into the outside world but am afraid they will run directly into the street and die.

One of them likes to climb up trees and fall out. That was 3 weeks ago. I guess I gotta just let go.

PS: If I ever win the lottery the first thing I am gonna get, after a large parcel of land, is “300 cats”.

I am a crazy cat man just waiting to happen.

You want to turn them feral or find homes for them? If the former, take them to a no-kill shelter.

When I say I want 300 cats I mean rescues from the local PetSmart. They have an entire wall of homeless cats in cages. It breaks my heart every time I go in there.

Some cats just don’t get adopted, especially I notice, the black ones.

If I won the lottery I’d be home all day and available to play with them.

You sound like a great guy. I own a black cat. I don’t know why people don’t love them - they are so pretty. Mine has a bit of a bad attitude but she’s old and may not always feel well.

They found his body in Ft. Marcy Park?

Good for Griffin, I hope it's a lifetime home.........

As a side note, looking at his picture, it's quite possible he has attitude issues which may come from being feral for too long.........

Please check out the above link to a video of Cat House On The Kings”. They have 500 to 800 kitties and some dogs at any given time. It’s a very worthy place to donate to or otherwise help out, the lady who runs it does a fantastic job! There are additional videos showing what they do, it’s amazing.

You sound like a great guy to me too. We have 8 cats, including a guest cat who started coming over to eat after his humans moved away. He’s ginormous and apparently aspires to be a bed cat, because I’ve awakened several times to find him snuggling with me. I started calling him Babykins after he stayed so long I figured he needed a name. And he responds to it. He appears to get along with my other 7 cats most of the time too...
