When men behave badly
The Globe and Mail ^ | May 23, 2015 | Margaret Wente

Posted on 05/23/2015 6:14:00 PM PDT by rickmichaels

Imagine you are a guy who has a responsible job with a big company in Toronto. It is 2015. The biggest story in your city is the plight of female TV reporters who are being harassed on the street by male passersby shouting obscenities. The harassers are being named, shamed, vilified, and in one case promptly fired. Everyone agrees that this disgraceful behaviour should be thoroughly condemned.

Now imagine that you are attending an industry-awards ceremony. It features a young female doing a stand-up comedy routine. Do you laugh and clap appreciatively? Secretly think Jerry Seinfeld was funnier? Heckle her by saying, “There’s a 51-per-cent chance that my buddy here will have sex with you … and I will take the other 49 per cent”? And when people tell you to shut up, just keep on going?

Yes, my friends, one man actually chose Option 3. After the woman walked off the stage and told her story to The Globe and Mail, his career prospects are also looking rather grim.

By some interpretations, these incidents reveal that sexual harassment is a serious social problem that’s more pervasive than ever. There is, however, another interpretation.

For the record, it would appear that Margaret Wente is practically one of us. Oh, maybe not quite as right-wing as me, but hardly a hyperventilating feminist.

Here’s a column that she wrote last year, and it appears from Google that she has taken a good bit of hell over this article...

“Can she consent to sex after drinking?”

“...The manufacture of “rape culture” is a triumph of ideology over substance. It has inflated a serious but uncommon threat into a crime wave. It infantilizes women, strips them of their agency and treats them like Victorian damsels in distress. As for those armies of would-be rapists lurking in every shadow – they’re your sons, your grandsons, your nephews and your brothers. I used to think the war on men was an exaggeration. I don’t think so any more.”

I totally agree with you, and I’m a woman.

I would suggest you read her column about Obamacare.

"The miscreants are almost invariably men."

Once I was at a state primitive campground and saw four young women trying to put up a large tent, in the dark, with little success.

I went over and even though I had never seen a tent like this, put it up by telling them what to do and when as I placed the frame where it needed to be.

They barely said thanks, as if I was obligated to help them and heard them say among themselves how hard it was for 'them' to have put it up.......:^(

“according to a woman that believes her vagina has an intellect. “

Filing that one to use if I have a verbal bout with a feminist.

The one titled “Obamacare is a big, ugly hairball?”

Yes. You’ll find O was only ‘doing what he could’ to get poor people *some* kind of health care, and that free health care is a moral imperative.

I think we’re focusing on different parts of the elephant ;-)

What I’m seeing is....

“...Mr. Obama sold people on the Affordable Care Act by promising that it would “cut the costs of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.” He promised they could keep their doctors and their insurance plans....

...The idea that Obamacare could offer more coverage to more people and sicker people, while also cutting costs, never did make sense. As Ms. Saunders writes, “It was too good to be true....””

That seems pretty conservative for a Canadian.

The number of idiots is just about equally dispersed
among the genders. Males tend to be less inhibited
when it comes to demonstrating their prowess at the
art of idiocy. Just my observation.

“Yet they persist. I’m always astonished when my friends in corporate life regale me with tales of bad conduct in high places, whether it’s obviously inappropriate sexual relationships or flagrant padding of expense accounts. The miscreants are almost invariably men.”

Horse puckey! Embezzlement is nearly always women.

“This fundamental difference between the sexes will never be eradicated no matter how hard we try. (Although try we must.)”

There’s yer problem right there!
