“...,Cops didnt want to risk having to do a water rescue, and ordered the folks to abandon the truck to its fate and move to higher ground. Folks wanted to try to save their truck, and refused. Cops didnt like that, and tried to force them to obey. Situation quickly spiraled out of control....”

Some (some...a small minority) of cops suffer from the same disease that plagues many black YUTES in the inner city...specifically the “you dissing me?” syndrome. And that syndrome can lead to homicide.
Nevertheless, something bothers me here. One would expect highly trained cops to try to deescalate a situation, especially when the citizens involved are not engaging in anything criminal. Doesn't look - as of now - that there was much deescalation going on here.
How about this?
Cops show up, tell the guy he must leave the vehicle because it’s too dangerous to continue trying to save it.
Guy gets enraged, struggles with cops, pulls a gun. Cops shoot him.
Is that what happened? No clue. But it could have happened and might make the shooting justifiable. Drunk and upset people do stupid things.
Of course, so do cops sometimes.
Lol. Not many.
There is almost no way this turns out to be a good shoot. It might not get the cop in jail, but at the very least it was BAD POLICE WORK.
We hire these guys to do a good job. The standard of a good job is not does the cop go to jail or not.
Dude, these days,, waiting for facts is so passe. :-)
I feel for LEOs these days,, most are just average Joes with lives and families to go home.
NO telling how hysterical some folks get.. and do or say stupid things in the moment..
Yes, without video, the safest assumption is probably to consider that everyone is lying to some degree. I’d be more willing to side with the preacher if it was local cops instead of state patrol.
On this side of the Red River, I’d expect that all the cops and firemen are a bit stressed at this point. It’s been a rough week, and while the rain has stopped, the water is still rising in some places.
“A bit more info:”

LOL, it must have been a microscopic bit.

Actually, I’d have more faith in the local cops since they would have more experience with stressful situations. Most state patrol officers are nothing more than speeding ticket writers.
yep. a quick google tells us that one of the cops was assaulted, and at least one of the brothers — the one that isn’t dead — was drunk.

Ahh....according to the cops?

I read the story, but it gave very few details. Me, I always wait for further information and don’t jump to conclusions.

Use your head for a change!
All we need here is more boot lickers.
This article is WAY short on facts!
The cop shot him because he wouldn’t abandon his truck.
“To protect and to serve.”
Other articles are not so short on facts.
It must be said, Tom Guy did not state the size of the bit!
And bits tend to be itty-bitty.
They had to kill him to save him.
