Would We See the Aliens Coming?

A basic rule of the Universe is that you can’t go faster than the speed of light. So I’m going to have any aliens trying to attack us traveling at sublight speeds.

So, we’ll say they’ve got access to a giant mountain of power. They can afford to travel at 10% the speed of light, which means before they get to us, they have to slow down. At this speed, deceleration is expensive. We’d see the energy signature from their brakes long before they even reached Earth.

Let’s say they’re passing the orbit of the dwarf planet Pluto, which is 4 light-hours away. Since they’re travelling at 10% the speed of light, we’d have about 40 hours to scramble jet fighters, get those tanks out onto the streets and round up Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bruce Willis to hide behind.

...

We’re actually pretty good at detecting heat with our infrared telescopes.

A space drive decelerating a city-sized alien spacecraft from a significant portion of the speed of light would shed a mountain of heat, and that’s all heat we might detect.

...

If aliens wanted to catch us off guard, they can use one of the oldest tricks in the aerial combat book, known as the Dicta Boelcke. They can fly at us using the Sun as camouflage. A rather large portion of the sky is completely obscured by that glowing ball of fiery plasma.

...

Astronomers often discover asteroids skimming by the Earth just after they’ve just gone past. That’s because they hurl at us from the Sun, just like clever aliens.

To spot those asteroids, we’ll need to deploy a space-based sky survey that can watch the heavens from a different perspective than Earth. Plans for this kind of mission are actually in the works.

“I believe they are already here. They occupy the bodies of democrats ... cause as the democrats like to point out and have heard them say so numerous times ... ‘resistance is futile’”

Ready for a total mindF@*k?

What happens if we are the aliens?

We come from a higher being. People on this planet believe in this concept of a government apparatus.

People been killing each other on this planet since the beginning of time? Yet we believe in liberty, freedom and the human condition.

It would seem that we are the more evolved beings and the lefties are primitive beasts. Maybe we came to this planet to tame a savage populace that given the chance will destroy itself and everything it touches, like parasites.

186,282 miles per second is not just a good idea, it’s the law.

There has never really been an instance of the society with worse technology NOT getting screwed.

And to take it a step further, our technology is advancing exponentially. My personal opinion is that if left unchecked, it will not be human friendly in, at the most, 70 years.

If it were to go forward 300 years unchecked, it would be so far removed from our imagination as to be far beyond mere “magic”. It would not be simply continued advancement as we’ve seen since the dawn of recorded history. It would be something else. Something quite terrifying.

It’s why it is a very good thing God is who He is. You kinda want Him on your side.

When I was a kid, and watched the moon landing, I said, “There are people watching this that came west in covered wagons.

I’ve seen ten times the change they saw. My grandchildren will see A HUNDRED TIMES the change I’ve seen.

Assuming the Lord waits that long, which I don’t think He will do.

“Why wood aliens by necessity be highly advanced beyond human technology?”

Because they will be coming from many light-years away and we barely made it to the moon

have read somewhere a similar theory as your proposed theory. Could be true and would be strange if those that came concealed all historical account based upon knowing a secret that if revealed would jeopardize any chance at full occupation of planet Earth ... thus historical record was never recorded, passed down one generation to another or written ...? but I would like to have Mars placed under more thorough scrutiny.

A basic rule of the Universe is that you can’t go faster than the speed of light.

It’s not just a rule, it’s the law. Congress should never have passed it.

Hillary was for it before she was against it.
She was a co-sponsor of Shrodinger’s HB O1.

Resistance will be utterly futile, if they are hostile.

If they come and kill us all immediately yes but the longer we survive the harder it becomes to eliminate us and the more formidable we become.

We're an incredibly intelligent and resourceful species. We're capable of thinking many centuries beyond or technical abilities. If an alien piece of tech were to fall into our hands, it may give us a thousand year leap in a direction the aliens aren't even capable of conceiving.

We know how to produce antimatter but don't know how to produce it in quantities needed to make it useful. We know what it takes to start and maintain a fusion reaction but we can't produce the pressures needed outside the core of a star. Finding the keys to those puzzles would advance us by a thousand years easily.

That said, I doubt that if there are intelligent aliens out there, they would have any interest in us. Aside from biological proteins, there's nothing on earth that can't be found in vast abundance all throughout the universe.

We currently do not have interstellar capability. Therefore, any technology capable of interstellar travel must be at least somewhat more advanced than where humans currently are. Most likely, very much more advanced.

Thank about how current technology would seem to somebody from George Washington's time.

Now, this does not necessarily mean that any alien visitors will themselves be very advanced. Think about Somali pirates. They have purchased technology which they could not have developed themselves. We might encounter aliens who purchased/stole technology from more advanced aliens.

“It would seem that we are the more evolved beings and the lefties are primitive beasts.”

If true, the beasts are winning by a long shot. How many countries seem to be run by more evolved humans vs. crude beasts (counting muzzie states, commie states, socialist states, etc)? How many cities? Seems “more evolved” doesn’t necessarily imply automagic victory over the lesser creatures. America herself seems like she’s being taken down by a pack of dogs - culturally, judicially, morally, spiritually, etc. The beasts seem poised to take it all.

Where the heck optimism comes from in this situation, I have no clue.

There is no reason at all to think that a space drive, one that is capable of 0.1c, is a chemical rocket, or some other design that is emitting waste IR. We already have engines, for example, that use electrostatic acceleration of ions. We are a decade away from learning something about the dark matter and the dark energy. A drive that uses those would be entirely undetectable by us today.

Besides, you do not send a large ship toward an unknown planet that is radiating EM waves in every part of the spectrum. It is clearly a technological world, and even an advanced alien would stop and think. If we imagine a huge colony ship of some wandering, warring species who need a planet to land on and take over, the most reasonable actions of that ship would be to get onto an orbit around the Sun, somewhere between Mars and Jupiter, and use that as a base to regroup, to refuel, to repair the ship - and to send remote probes to other planets, including Earth.

Hydrogen is the single most abundant element in the universe with oxygen in the top 5 or 10. The elements to create water are everywhere.
