An Orlando Police Department dog mangled the arm of a 12-year-old burglary suspect during an arrest last week, sending the boy to the hospital for three days and adding to ongoing concern over whether deploying dogs on juveniles constitutes excessive force.
The OPD incident report from June 4 states the boy had pried open portable classrooms at Shingle Creek Elementary School and started running after officers told him to stop.
But two other minors, also charged in the burglary, saw the whole thing and said the injured boy had already dropped to his knees in compliance when the dog lunged at him, family members said.

It is painfully obvious that you don’t have a clue about canine handling. It might be best to post on something you are knowledgeable on.
When dogs are sent on pursuit, they are taught to bite, take the criminal down, and hold until the officer catches up. If it gets to the point that the dog is sent on a pursuit and bite, it nearly always ends up this way. No way to reliably prevent it once the dog is sent. You seem to want to recall the bullet once it is out the barrel...

This kid/criminal had to spend three days in the hospital because either: 1. The dog was not trained properly or 2. The officer handling the dog was not trained properly.
The whole point of the dog is that it obeys commands - as such it is EXACTLY like recalling the bullet once it is out of the barrel - if handler and dog are trained properly.
a bite is one thing, 3 days in the hospital is something different and not the end-result desired under any circumstances from a police dog.

I've often wondered if that's why America has always foamed at the mouth at the mere mention of "Nazis".
Perhaps we're subconsciously aware that we're a gnat's whisker away from a Police State, and always have been.
Wonder what the Founders did without streets crawling with State enforcers and their attack dogs?
They should teach these dogs how to gum down on criminal suspect's who are not legal adults. Or maybe just bark and do tricks.

It was the criminal's attorney who told ya the sad tales of cruelty and how much severe extensive damage was done to the poor victim.
You might not be aware but attorney's will attempted to turn a 1 MPH rear end traffic accidents into a near fatal brutal collisions. The impact was so great it will likely cause life long extensive disabilities, loss of sex drive, endless rehab and sleep therapist and on and on. Whiplash, eyelash, caused the victim to uncontrollably burp....
They turn a hot cups of coffee into vats of popping molten lava from hell.
Level of pain is so severe it causes victims to suddenly experience farting fits. They'll bring out a conga-line of experts who'll tell ya these life altering experiences can cause one to fart like a cow uncontrollably due to fear of hot liquid.

Not taking any bets on this kid, though.
Don’t steal.
But if you somehow just cannot manage to not steal, do not run from the dog.
Animals are unpredictable, and I believe there has to be a compelling reason to use them against a human being.
A 12-year old burglary suspect is simply not enough of a threat to sick a ferocious animal on.
And when animals do go out of control, the organization who is using them should be held responsible.
That's a different story.

BTW, a 12 year old male silhouette in the dark can appear as a possible adult. If under similar circumstances if the suspect had been in a dark alley breaking into a bank at night, instead of a school, would you feel the same way?

For some reason I find information passed on to the paper from the family who got it from the accomplices of the perpetrator somewhat dubious.
In a physical sense I prefer it only hurt when done in a criminal manner. Like in this case. Sure they'll sue and pay off Dad and Mom. The attorney already made it look like the suspects arm was hanging together by a blood vessel. Looks bad. Poor child.
Of course it might just stop the suspect from one day deciding to start breaking into private homes, where a dog bite might prove to be the very least of his problems.
