“He was big into segregation and other stuff,” Tyler told ABC News. “He said he wanted to start a civil war. He said he was going to do something like that and then kill himself.”

There's going to be a time in the future where he's really going to which he had killed himself. He's not tough enough to protect himself in prison, and I don't think he'll be able to pay the price for protection. I'd say this kid is about to have a short, horrible life. Deservedly so.

Don't judge the crop by a few bad seed, FRiend. Our Republic's greatest hope is in bringing them around, not alienating them. They're often bitter because they've been lied to about almost everything, and they are often not so stupid as to ignore it. But who taught them?

Who let them be lied to?

And whose duty is it to try to help them get it right when we can?

Accessory?

Not likely. Unless the killer had given the room mate good reason to believe that he was serious and believable about what he intended to do I doubt that he will be held culpable.

A great many people make idle comments and/or threats about committing a crime or exacting revenge for something or other, but only a very few of those threats are serious and followed through. If all such threats were taken seriously and investigated by LE they wouldn't have very much time to do the more serious work.

-- I might mention it to someone. But that's juxt me. --

If I thought he was serious, I damn well would rat him out - and I'd tell him I was ratting him out, too.

But I don't have a legal duty to do so.

One of the fundamental weaknesses of the law is its arrogance. Its actors now think and act as though the law alone can hold a civil society together. The belief is that "the law" holds that much power. It doesn't claim that it IS the only power holding society together, and it always welcomes outside help, but its claim to superiority over all else does not serve it well.

We still know next to nothing about Waco but the Lame Stream Media ferrets this guy out in less than 24 hours.

-- ... if he has had drug related run-ins with the law prior to Dad's giving him that gun, Dad made a big mistake. --

That's for sure. I'm on the "arm everybody" side of the spectrum, but that assumes or presupposes a certain degree of care and competence on the part of those armed. I wouldn't gift my own son or daughter a firearm, unless I had sound reason to believe they shared my reverence for life, and I knew from having gone shooting with them, that they handled a firearm with appropriate respect. About the same attitude I have toward gifting them a car. I want to be in the car and watch them drive, and when I think they pay enough attention, have enough courtesy, and have a handle on their anger, then I'll give them permission to drive without me in the car.

“I think I heard he was also caught with Suboxone”

Previous bust which hasn’t gone trial. My understanding is that it was a felony charge. The little 140 pound twerp was about to be a prison pinata and probably felt he had nothing to lose. In retrospect he wasn’t In disguise and probably thought he was gonna die one way or another before he ever saw the inside of a prison. Since it is a capitol murder charge i’m not sure he will ever be see the general population of a prison. Shame, i’d like to think he was someone’s Pinata before they shove the needle in.

“Can you say accessory?”

Unfortunately, as I understand present law no. But the problem is, where do you draw a line?

Dad is going to get nailed for giving him the gun. At the very least Dad will get sued.

-- Isn't this Misprision of a Felony? --

Nope. Misprision of felony requires a felony in the first place, and six months ago, there wasn't one.

But, anybody who knows a dope smoker (and I'm NOT looking at you, DiogenesLamp) who also possess a firearm, that hasn't turned the felon in to some judge or other person in civil or military authority under the United States, has committed misprision of felony (18 USC 4), the underlying firearm possession felony being 18 USC 922(g).

I bet it was similar to the Lanza situation. I can picture this kid being distant and hard to talk to as he sunk into his twisted world. But then he perks up and seems more normal when the conversation turns to guns, wants to spend time with Dad and go shooting, etc. Family thinks hey finally a way to get this kid out his funk and teach him some responsibility. Bad choice.

“He said he wanted to start a civil war. He said he was going to do something like that and then kill himself.”

“Good luck living down that statement of yours.”

Start a civil war or Kill himself?
I
Start a civil war, it may have already begun.
Kill himself, the fuzz will be watching and waiting for
this. So if he dies then they let it happen.
