ASBURY PARK — Fueled by a child custody dispute, a recently divorced Neptune Township police officer shot and killed his former wife in broad daylight on Tuesday in front of their daughter on an Asbury Park street, authorities said.

***

While taking him into custody, some of the officers hugged him and patted him comfortingly on the back, the witness said.

Gee, I can’t imagine why someone with homicidal tendencies had so few opportunities to have access to his children.

They had to *talk* the guy into *letting* his daughter come over to the cops.

Now there are nine children who almost certainly “feel threatened”.

"While taking him into custody"

Sounds like they did uphold it.

Honestly, trying to comfort your distraught friend who just did a terrible thing instead of what, cracking him over the skull? Kicking him in nuts, in front of the kid who just saw him kill his mom? That would make things better? Of all the things to get offended over. We don't need to join the leftists in being offended over everything. The man was arrested, and will be spending a very long time in prison.

...instead of what, cracking him over the skull?

You mean the kind of treatment a "civilian" would get?

You should be offended that they might do that to a “civilian” not that they DIDN’T do to it to a fellow cop.

If I shoot someone for any other reason then defense of myself or others you have my permission to beat the living daylights out of me.

I will deserve it.

So did this guy.

Yes, I am willing to be judged by the same standard I hold others to.

Comforting the guy who did the terrible thing rather then trying to comfort the son or the family of the victim is not only OK but admirable in your book?

PLEASE tell me I am reading your statement wrong.

I just hope the little girl’s vision was somehow blocked and later in life she has no memory of this horrible tragedy.

It’s “ok” with me, yeah. It’s “ok” with me that some cops still treated their friend like a friend even though he just committed a terrible murder. They didn’t ****ing let him escape, they arrested him, they did their duty. What the hell are you so offended about? That this is was “special treatment” compared to most people who are arrested? Guess what, everyone everywhere treats their friends/family better than they treat strangers. Duh. Big deal. The man is in jail now.

Just making sure.

I will say that those who are kind to the cruel are then cruel to the kind.

And a man who kills his wife in front of their children is about as cruel as you can get.

Well if someone close to you does something unthinkable and you want to treat them with utter disdain, knock yourself out. I’d no more judge that than these cops for their reaction. I’m sure it’s an awful situation to find oneself in, especially for a law enforcement officer who is tasked with arresting someone they care about.

How about instead of tackling your friend to *prevent* the horrific crime?

How about inserting yourself between the intended victim and your “friend”?

The murderer did more than take his wife’s life-—he has psychologically scarred his nine children. They will have to wrestle with the fact that Daddy murdered Mommy before witnesses-—and received hugs-—while Mommy bled to death-—for the rest of their lives.

I can assure you that if someone I loves murders their wife in cold blood I will not be giving them hugs.

I did not expect them to abuse them just to treat him like they would anyone who murders their spouse in front of their children. Apparently that is too much to ask.

Sorry about that.

But I just don't get the mindset of giving hugs and back pats to the guy who just killed his wife in front of you.

I can understand standing by your buddy if there was doubt of his guilt but you just saw him kill.

Does not compute. And I certainly hope none of them have the keys to his cell because they might decide to let him out to go to grab a sandwich. After all he is their buddy.

“She was a nice person,” the neighbor said. “She loved her children. She always wanted to be a mother and she worked hard for them.”

One more example of only police should be allowed to have guns.

Oh, never mind.

Doesn’t look likely, regrettably.

The couple’s 7-year-old daughter was in Phillip Seidle’s passenger seat, he said.

Tamara Seidle crashed her Jetta into an unoccupied green Ford Focus, LeMieux said. At that time, LeMieux said, Phillip Seidle got out of his car, took out his .40- caliber Glock service handgun and fired “several” shots into Tamara’s Seidle’s car.
