Vanity- Maybe the States can refuse to recognize any marriage

Posted on 06/27/2015 9:32:46 AM PDT by Perdogg

Maybe some of the States could pass legislation not recognizing any marriage. This would be in line the SCROTUS rulings. SCROTUS said that Homosexual marriage was protected under "equal protection". Therefore, if there is no provision for any marriage, it would be "equal protection".

You want your state to declare your marriage legally invalid?

What about those in the military?

I’ve argued that for some time. Use their own tactics against them and eliminate government recognition of marriage entirely.

Maybe some of the States could pass legislation not recognizing any marriage.

Since the Supreme Court has nullified their marriage statutes, there is no legitimate statutory authority for these states to issue any marriage licenses.

The fact of the matter is that States that issue marriage licenses to anyone right now have no legitimate authority to do so.

Unless they ignore the lawless decision of the SCOTUS and continue to issue licenses only to those people who are qualified under the existing statutes.

I think I’ll continue my blessed relationship without the intervention of the State.

A much lower court can now use the logic of this case to approve absolutely anything as “marriage”.

From what I have read here, the governors of Texas and Louisiana have said they will not issue marriage cert for same sex couples.

Not sure if that is true or not.

It's all about money, although gays won't tell you that.

If you die, who inherits? Your legal spouse. If you divorce, who gets half (or more) of your stuff? If your spouse becomes ill, who pays the doctor bills? How about SS survivor's benefits? Your spouse, along with your children. If you and your spouse file a joint income tax return, you both benefit from your marriage.

Now imagine if marriage was unrecognized in your state. How many of these matrimonial perks would survive?

Its going to take an outside the political parties Martin Luther King style movement willing to be civilly disobedient.

The GOPe look at opinion polls just like JFK and the Democrat Establishment did in the early 1960’s.

THE GOPE SEES THE PUBLIC OPINION POLLS AND WILL NOT MEANINGFULLY RESIST. WE SAW THIS WHEN THEY CAVED ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM BILLS IN INDIANA AND ARKANSAS EARLIER THIS YEAR.

Public opinion did not support integration-civil rights until folks got hosed down by water cannon and bit by dogs, until hundreds of six and seven year old children marched into police wagons in defiance of Bull Connor in Birmingham.

We must throw off the chains of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, GOPe friendly websites and other voices that demonize Liberals and Democrats to intoxicate us with anger and keep us in the angry debate chamber.

We can’t be a rabble of bitter angry alcoholic like people which is my life story.

I need to Love God, Love Humanity and humbly resist evil without anger or hatred in my heart.

Glenn Beck is making more sense than other voices out there now but maybe we need a new leader to emerge.

The SCOTUS has ruled there is now no such thing as marriage.

People here don’t seem to realize that no one has to get a marriage license to get married.

Americans do it all the time, and always have, no one forces you to be “legal”.

These threads are goofy.

I keep hearing this theory in one form or another, but I think people are overlooking one of the most important things about marriage in America, something that I think was a driving motivation for gays to seek legalization of same sex marriage.

TAXES....SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS.....HEALTH INSURANCE.

I don’t know how any of these things would work if we did away with civil marriage.

Just thinking out loud...

Maybe a different type of contract could be added for one man-one woman marriages only. Couldn’t the states simply give it another name if it can’t be called just marriage now?

Then one man/one woman couples would have the option to choose “marriage” and/or this other category.

And also, allow churches to marry couples as a sacrament without the civil marriage.

I guess we could just treat all people equally, whether married or not.

If you want to have your own religious (or non-religious) marriage do it, you always could, complying with law, or the “state” is voluntary.

You don’t think that Mormons, and Muslims, and gays, and atheists, and anyone who wants to, have been conducting private marriage ceremonies all along, meaningful to themselves, without caring that the state doesn’t recognize the marriage as legal?

Do whatever you want, if you don’t want to go get a license, or seek legal status, then don’t.

By the way, in some states you can even be legally married without a license, as long as you are Common Law married.

Texas is one of those.
