That’s the thing, I’m used to a big blue city. I have found that you can find friends anywhere and believe it or not I have found conservatives in the Chicago area. My friend being down there helps the transition out immensely if I go live in Dallas or Houston I will know no one.

I should say I don’t really live in Houston

I guess I should have specified that I actually live in Brazoria County and YES the commute is hell. Thankfully this is Mayor Porker’s last term. But the job market is very good. But I don’t believe that is due to the politicians.

Apparently you have a place to stay. Find you a quick employment and then begin
the more permanent search. The areas surrounding Austin may offer opportunities also.

Good luck.

I carpool to and from work on the 59 HOV lane. It used to be a good commute until the dumbasses at Metro turned it into a toll lane. Now the HOV is just another bumper-to-bumper lane on the freeway.

Whats the take on the Corpus Christi area? Living close to the ocean sounds good.

I go north on 288 to work. It isn’t bad in the morning as I leave early enough to avoid much traffic. But coming home is a real witch.

One day last week I saw a naked man walking though a parking lot with two plastic shopping bags tied around his waist. They were pretty useless as it was quite windy.

“Austin is on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, which is the most beautiful place on earth.”

I grew up in Austin 60 years ago and I had many fond memories enjoying that area.

Now, I see a liberal-infested city that will punish any conservative. I avoided retiring into the Hill Country as it is too dry and water issues will predominate in the next decades.

My family of 13 remains there, but I know better.

Steer clear of Austin. The Dallas/Ft Worth area or Houston suburbs are MUCH more conservative and have thriving job markets.

Best of luck. Texas welcomes hard working conservatives....please don’t invite any libs down, to join you ;-)

I notice that a lot of folks have suggested you choose Dallas - Ft Worth over Austin. I agree wholeheartedly. This is a much more conservative area, and one that you’ll probably find much more to your liking over the long haul.

If you can handle working outdoors with your hands, I’ve got a job available that will pay $30K to $35K the first year.

I’m pretty sure we could find you some lodging with a fellow Freeper in this area, as well.

Let me know if you’re interested.

You’re getting a lot of information. Texas is a wonderful place to live and work. There are a lot of things to do, a lot of places to see and wonderful people to meet. We have a great governor, good and faithful representatives from around the state making it a great state. Come on down, we’d love to have you. we still have lot of space.

Thanks so much for reaching out! Free Republic is a great source of information and I like advice from FReepers, especially people who live in the great state of Texas on their experiences in the lone star state. Texas is a great place to live and I want to make my home there, Austin will be a good place to start. Can’t wait to live in my new home state!
