I often make small talk with cashiers (esp if they are pretty). One tactic is when they ring up a significant number like $14.92, $19.41, etc., I make a comment.
One day at Wal-Mart the kid rang up $17.76. I said, “A famous date in history.” He replied, “Whut’s that?”. Flabbergasted, I said “This nation’s birthday”. He said “Kewl.”
I walked out, wiping away a tear in my eye.
