I have no idea whether Deimos and Zia are related. Given that they are former street kittens from the same general area I wouldn’t bet against it.
Zia is female, and named after the state symbol of New Mexico (I love that place). Deimos is male; he got his name because when my neighbor found him and another kitten (presumably his brother), I volunteered to take them both to vet and had to name them on the fly. Phobos and Deimos are the moons of the planet Mars, and the sons of the Roman god Mars. (Also, Deimos means “terror” and he whined all the way to the vet.)

He’s always been big, but the vet says he’s fine. The only time I’m worried about his weight is when he’s laying on my chest.
