What is so hard about building a border fence? It's just like building a highway. BUILD ONE.

Ok I was just thinking about our southern border.

We actually have two borders, but one is high priority, and the only person speaking up is Donald Trump, and Ted Cruz is also somewhat.

What in the world is so difficult about building a border fence?

It's not that complex. We have freeways which are far, far more complex, from coast to coast, in the north, in the center of the country, and in the south.

We have roads all over America, in every town, in every county, in all 50 states. All over the place.

We cannot build a fence, from Texas to California?

I say this is absurd.

China built a great wall thousands of years ago.

The only thing stopping us, is our political class.

Build it.

Now.

There is nothing hard about it.

Perhaps we are framing it wrong.

Hey Obama. You need to build a giant flat gray fence along the southern border so you can shine rainbow colored lights on it that can be seen from space. (To let the aliens know that they can come down here and get married and share benefits, ya know.)

I've seen that wall. It wouldn't stop an invasion unless it was manned.

But, I know what you mean. And I agree completely.

The regime is too busy pushing gays on American boys and attacking free speech and raising our taxes and is not concerned about murderers and rapists crossing the border.

Because on parts of the border, a fence simply isn't feasible. There is natural terrain along the Rio Grande River and AZ desert that provides adequate border security.

If an illegal alien ever scales that part of the border, not only does he/she deserve U.S. citizenship, but a fricking Presidential Medal of Freedom.

One can only conclude they don't want one. For whatever reason, an endless stream of Mexicans and South Americans suits their fancy.

A fence, by itself, can be climbed over, tunneled under, or smashed through. No matter how strong it is, if there is somebody with access to explosives (as the cartels do), a hole can be blown in it.

There's a prerequisite to building an effective fence. It is "having the will to do bad things to those who attempt to scale it".

Even a modest 8 foot high chain link fence would be effective, though, if the crossers knew that there were US Marine snipers watching it, with orders to shoot anybody trying to scale the fence. But the US does not have the will to go that far.

Mostly BSing you, the beer has kicked in. But we should have armed posts on the border that a fence cannot be built on. It is true that on some parts of the U.S./Mexico border, some of the terrain isn’t suitable for a fence.

That is BS. Just because there is challenging terrain does not mean you cannot have an effective barrier and border control. Which is what is really meant when opponents say we can’t build a fence.

The political elite (Democrats and Republicans alike) have already made the calculation. It will cost them more votes, and more bad publicity, to build the wall than to not build the wall. Thus the wall will not be built.

Notice that the good of the country did not figure into that calculation.

Am aware of that. This does not preclude electronic monitoring and intercept teams. In Israel they have tower mounted remote controlled machine guns. Just saying.

It’s a long border. You can build a wall just about anywhere if you’re willing to work through bogs, streams and political pressure.

As far as I know Trump is the only candidate who has called for building a wall all along the border. On the other hand, Rick Perry seems to think that the Texas border is already sufficiently well protected.

What’s puzzling to me is Perry leveled some pretty serious criticism against Trump and, instead of Trump trashing Perry (as he has done with every other critic of him) he tweeted how much he liked Perry. Why is that?
