How Conservative Will Jeb Bush Be on Abortion in 2016?

Jeb Bush considers himself to be “the most pro-life governor in modern times,” but pro-life advocates are pushing him to support a more aggressive agenda on abortion if he runs for president in 2016, with one group telling IJReview that they “don’t believe that he has gone far enough.”

Bryan Longworth, president of Personhood Florida, told IJReview that now is the time to tackle abortion rights, which will require Bush and the other candidates to be “more aggressive” in their position on the issue.

“He wasn’t an enemy of the pro-life cause, but we don’t believe that he has gone far enough,” Longworth said.

Since Bush became active on the political scene, his rhetoric on abortion has consistently been more moderate than his actual policies.

During his successful 1998 gubernatorial bid in Florida, Bush told The New York Times that he didn’t want to focus on abortion rights:

“There’s all this Christian right, and abortion. These are not the issues that drive people’s concerns. They want to know, how do they get the support to make sure their children don’t take drugs. They want their schools to be safe.”

Bush’s tune didn’t change after leaving office in 2007. He told NBC News in 2012 that having a discussion about abortion wouldn’t create jobs:

“It’s a powerful moral issue. People have deeply held beliefs. But it’s not going to change the economic climate of our country.”

As governor of Florida, he sought restrictions on abortion using his executive power.

In 2003, Bush unsuccessfully attempted to get the courts to appoint a guardian for the fetus of a 22-year-old developmentally disabled woman who became pregnant after being raped in a state-supervised group home.

In 2005, he intervened in the case of a 13-year-old girl who was 13-and-a-half weeks pregnant when she tried to get an abortion. A judge overruled Bush’s case that she was too young to make her own decision.

At the same time, the number of abortions in Florida rose during Bush’s tenure (January 5, 1999 – January 2, 2007).

In 1998, the total number of abortions for the state was 82,335, according to the Florida Vital Statistics annual report. That number continued to rise until it peaked at 95,586 in 2006. By 2011, the total abortions in Florida had dropped back down to 84,990.

During the primaries, he'll be a tiger.

During the general, he'll be 'non-controversial'.

Just like RINOs always are.

This pretty much says it all: At the same time, the number of abortions in Florida rose during Bush’s tenure (January 5, 1999 – January 2, 2007).

I bet he will continue his legacy as Prescott Bush’s grandson.

FYI, Prescott Bush was the first TREASURER for Planned Parenthood.

Stay out of the Bushes!

Not even Jeb knows the answer yet because it is too soon to do the polls and focus groups on the subject.

Jeb Bush murdered Terri Schiavo, and is totally unrepentant. He cannot be trusted to do ANYTHING on the basis of principle.
