A chart made from Ashley Madison data reveals 25 cities where the most people want to cheat

The leak of customer data from the extramarital-dating website Ashley Madison has been a nightmare for a lot of people. On Tuesday hackers released nearly 10 gigabytes of user information from a July breach, and revelations are already starting to come from the data.

According to one researcher, who goes by the Twitter handle t0x0pg, the leak contains more than 15,000 US military and governmental email addresses, most of which are military. These figures should be taken with a grain of salt, as Ashley Madison did not verify the email addresses used during sign-up.

But another insight that comes from the data is the differences in user counts between cities. The Dadaviz graphic below shows the 25 cities with the most Ashley Madison accounts. Bear in mind that these numbers don't take population into consideration — so while Toronto has a similar number of accounts to Santiago, Chile, it has about half the population.

Here’s the real problem, how many of these Ashley Madison clients will try and get ahead of this and tell their spouses . . . not having any firm knowledge of whether their spouses would ever become aware otherwise. That’s a real bitch.

I don’t know, but I was looking at the top 10 only...down the list is Perth (Western Australia) with another 88,000.

That brings it up to 3% of the entire country with an Ashley Madison account.

Amazingly, this numbers on this list appear to be correlated with the population in the various cities.

Some enterprising Freeper should take the database and make a website with search fields 0 last name, city, etc. and charge $5 per search. Would make millions.

Do not download darknet software to your home machine. I guarantee anyone that does so is logged

Technically illegal to sell or store that info since it was illegally hacked. Anyone holding it can be sued

Well.....I’ve known several gals whose real names were Ashley, Ainsley, or Courtney.

Johnny Carson once read a list of the top ten women’s names in America, and `Edna’ was one of them.

To account for this, he figured there was a midwestern town somewhere named `Ednaville’.

Seems to me our government should do this and then fire all of the people who callously put our national security at risk by joining such a sickening website!

People looking to have affairs are not a threat to national security. Given that 70% of AM users are men, it would be reasonable to assume that 40% of the users, or 80% of the males never actually succeed in starting an affair on AM. There is nothing to get all worked up about. If you are disgusted by it, don't sign up. I'm sure there are a lot of good and decent people in sexless marriages who browse AM to try to meet someone. Don't take it so seriously.

If everyone already knows something, you can't use it to blackmail someone. "Give me the classified data or I'll tell everyone about your Ashley Madison account!" Too late, chump, everyone in the entire world has already been told - duh.

On the other hand, an intel agency could mine the customer data to determine patterns and discover key information that could make it easier to run a honey trap on a specific individual.

I thought you had to pay to use AM?

There aren’t a lot of people motivated enough to *pay money* to sign someone up just to mess with them. If I were asking questions, I’d also have to ask my SO how this ‘someone’ got a hold of their credit card info... including that little security number on the back. And how would this ‘stranger who used my email’ happen to know that the files would be leaked to ‘get me’ later?

No. There’s too much here for most people on this list to be victims.

Hacking in general is a monumental concern for American commerce and government. That being said, the Ashley Madison crowd deserves it. And why cant these hackers weed out pedophiles?

If ‘NYC’ is just Manhattan, I wonder how many total there’d be if they added in all 5 boroughs as a single ‘city’.
