Found on the western side of what was once the Templo Mayor complex in Tenochtitlan, in modern Mexico City, the partially unearthed skull rack was likely built between 1485 and 1502 and may have been about 112 feet (34 meters) long and 40 feet (12 meters) wide.
Mostly belonging to young adult men, but also to women and children, several of the unearthed skulls feature holes on both sides, suggesting they belonged to a tzompantli. This was a rack on which the skulls of sacrificed people were arranged on wooden poles and displayed...
To make the scene even more horrifying, the new finding revealed that part of the platform where the head rack once stood was made of rows of skulls mortared together in a circle.
All the skulls faced inward toward the center of the circle, although it’s unknown what was in there.

This has been known about for a long time. In the late 1950’s when I had anthropology/archaeology courses in Mexico I read about this. I read in the original Spanish “Cortez’ Five Letters to King Carlos” of Spain, and Bernal Diaz, one of Cortez’s lieutenants concurrent record of his experiences. I would read one episode in one and then read the same period of time in the other. Subsequently, I also read Salvador Madariaga’s “Heart of Jade”, also a very realistic and bloody historical novel. These are all excellent books if you can find them.

Now, Now, we all know that the skulls were of peaceful, vegan Aztecs who lived as one with nature and their native fellows of other tribes, who were killed by the mean nasty Spainards and then planted by them to make it look like the Aztecs had bloody ritual murder/sacrifices of their enemies and slaves.
(just giving the political correct view, that I totally disagree with)
The truth is often not politically correct, and this is a good example.

I've been there numerous times and seen for myself.
Or the Incans. But all three Aztecs, Mayans and Incans practiced human sacrifice on a massive scale. Just about all central and south American civilizations did. But hey lets keep our southern border open. All cultures are equally good right? /s
