In August 2011 I took Mrs C and the dtr to Niagara Falls, Canadian side (road trip through Ontario). While we were there the Duggars were being filmed on the American side. It was a bit odd watching the horde of people following after them with no one on the American side looking at the falls.

The ‘lists’ in the search engines, ect, are VERY dodgy and can lead people to get malware. Unfortunately, hackers have tacken advantage of this.

Well, I wouldn’t recommend ‘surfing the list online’. But this guy (who I trust for the moment) has created a database from emails in the doc dump and is offering a search capability. However......search at your own risk.

Does anyone know someone who has a serious sexual addiction and actually been helped? I have a friend who has been in counseling forever.

Would you be referring to the mayor of Hartselle, AL?

I keep hearing Bill Gothard mentioned along with the Duggars (a show I never watched). Is he a cult of sorts?

"as she also receives counsel and help for her own heart and future,"

Hmmm

If it's Gothard counseling, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, she'll be counseled to accept her part of the blame for Josh's offenses, and to do better in the future.

I wasn’t a frequent viewer of the Duggars’ show, but I disliked Josh the first time I saw him. He struck me as smug and self-satisfied, a gasbag in training.

I recall one scene at an amusement park. Anna was afraid to go on the rollercoaster, and she told Josh she didn’t want to do it. He said, paraphrasing, “Yes, you will...you’re going.”
Just like that. Her opinion and her fears didn’t matter.

I know you are correct. More reason these people are giving Christians/marriage a bad name. Now try to convince a young woman who’s leaning towards feminism to want to be a good Christian wife after watching all this play out in the media. I’m telling you all this was planned out to give us all a bad name.

I don’t know Anna, never met her but I wish I could slap the stupid off of her. Don’t get me wrong I understand she thinks she is being a good Christians but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Good Grief!! I never watched the show, just saw parts of it while at my friends house. Thought Josh and the rest were creepy! I sure hope that scene did not happen after Josh and Anna were married and she was pregnant! Pregnant women are not suppose to ride roller coasters!

I had thought maybe Josh was a controlling, pompous, and arrogant. That maybe he was abusing Anna. Boy when I’m right, I’m right!!!

I don't know that I would actually classify it as a cult. As far as I can see, Gothard believes in the fundamentals of Biblical doctrine regarding God, Jesus, the Bible, Sin, the Church, etc. But there are some cult-like aspects to Bill Gothard’s organization that I see as distortions of Biblical teaching that are really destructive to relationships and lives. His teachings are big into AUTHORITY (in caps for emphasis) and legalism, with everyone under someone elses authority. Wives under husbands, and kids under parents, and husband under God. Each underling is expected to give blind obedience to the authority above him or her. Gothard teaches that as long as they do this they will have God's approval and protection. How does this play out? Well, that means that the husband/wife relationship is not one of equal power and authority and value. What the wife wants or thinks is really irrelevant. She is to submit totally to her husband in everything. Everything may work out ok if the husband is kind and truly unselfish. But this teaching can lead to terrible abuse. Years ago I was invited to attend a Gothard conference. I had no clue what it was. While it was not totally off-base, I have never forgotten the testimonies of women who shared how they submitted to their abusive and controlling husbands’ every demand, and how this blind obedience led to God blessing them, even when what their husbands demanded was that they participate in immoral or illegal acts. Somehow, even when they were asked to do something wrong, they were supposed to do it because it was more important that they obey their husband in everything than do or not do what God had already said. That obedience to their husbands became “the right thing” because that is what God supposedly demands. If they refused to go along with their husband, they were out from that umbrella of protection. God would deal with their sinful husbands. It wasn't the wives' business. And of course in all this mix is the big Kahuna himself. And I don't mean God. I mean Gothard. His authority seems to be directly under God. So following Gothard is extremely important to Gothardites.

In post 33 on this thread by CatherineofAragon, she relates an incident where Anna does not want to do something, but her husband forces her to do it anyway. He gets his way because he is the husband. No discussion needed. His will is rubber-stamped by God Himself. Or so Gothardites tend to believe. I haven't watched the Duggar show much. I have probably seen an episode or two. But I have been aware of them. I don't agree with their brand of Christianity, but I really do believe that the parents are sincere and trying to be faithful Christians. I believe that they thought that they were being a witness for their faith with their tv show, and I think they were to a certain extent. But now great damage has been done to their reputations and their witness for Christ. They thought that if they simply followed Gothard's formulas they could protect their children from ungodly influences and that their children would never stray. I feel sorry for them. But most of all I feel sorry for Anna and her children. Being in the Gothard religion at this point will only bring further heartache, not healing. For further info and a critique on Gothard I recommend: A Matter of Basic Principles: Bill Gothard and the Christian Life http://www.amazon.com/Matter-Basic-Principles-Gothard-Christian/dp/0974252808/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1440702405&sr=1-7&keywords=bill+gothard

Maybe she's better off being a feminist. Unless Christians can come up with something better to offer than, "You get to be a household servant and a sex slave, too!" they deserve to lose.

That is what is going to happen. Then they wonder why feminists hate men. Oh gee I wonder why???
