The ‘Trump Phenomenon’ and the Effort to Overthrow Boehner
Rollcall ^ | 9/3/2015 | Matt Fuller

Posted on 09/03/2015 11:40:19 AM PDT by mrsmith

A day before the August recess, when Rep. Mark Meadows announced a legislative move to strip Speaker John A. Boehner of his gavel, few would have predicted that Donald Trump would be the summer’s biggest political story.

But with the billionaire developer consistently topping the polls, and with most theories on his ascendance citing a general disgust with business as usual in Washington, Meadows sees Trump as a harbinger for his colleagues in the House.

“The Trump phenomenon is not just with Donald Trump; it’s with re-election with members as well,” Meadows told CQ Roll Call Wednesday, “and there’s a real throw-out-the-establishment-bums mentality.”

Meadows hasn’t endorsed any presidential candidate — and backing Trump wouldn’t seem to jive with much of the North Carolina social conservative positions — but Meadows told CQ Roll Call that Trump’s rise is “a byproduct of real frustration on Main Street America.”

Members need to take note of that frustration, he said — or they might get run over by it... ...he also said passing a continuing resolution to avoid a shutdown presents different hurdles for different members — including Planned Parenthood funding, military spending, and abiding by the sequester spending caps...

Not much more on Trump here. But it gives an idea of what's happening in the House Republican Caucus and an update on Boehner's removal. What role Trump plays in this fall's congress is up to him. He could certainly cause the GOPe a lot of grief.

If I were him I'd mostly just ridicule what they do instead of getting involved much. But he's a pretty aggressive guy.

Hope everyone has let their Representative know their opinion of Boehner.

I think if Trump wins he gives his agenda to Congress. If they give him grief I see him naming who people should consider recalling and running against.

I don’t think Trump will put up with a smug politician who thinks they have a right to do business as usual, like Reagan I think you get fireside chats on steroids!

Trump is a late-comer to the effort and never a leader of it. He’s too busy trying to get socialist healthcare in this country.

Boehner IS The Best Alcoholic On Capitol Hill!

Click Any Pic To Enlarge

He’s also a closet chain-smoker, fond of the Barclay’s brand, rumored to be able to suck half a pack down in a matter of minutes if given a proper recess.

The son of a bar owner, Boehner worked alongside his father mopping the floors at Andy’s Café when he was in elementary school. Perhaps that’s where he first developed his taste for booze, but today, Congressman Boehner resembles a modern day Dean Martin of sorts, even leading a social life the legendary crooner would envy.

He’s made a name for himself with his legendary late-night parties which he first began throwing at the 1996 Republican National Convention. Nicknamed the “Best Little Warehouse” party, Boehner, (along with Bruce Gates, a tax lobbyist with Washington Council Ernst & Young and head of Mr. Boehner’s Freedom Project PAC and prominent lobbyist Henry Gandy) are known for throwing a party at the RNC that runs multiple days, often lasts until dawn and exceeds $100,000.

When Boehner replaced Tom Delay and was elected as Majority Leader back in 2006, disclosure reports filed with the FEC show that Boehner (or his representatives), spent $1,465 at the “classy” liquor store Schneider’s of Capitol Hill on February 3rd, the very next day after he was elected as leader. Clearly a celebration was in order. The bill was paid by Boehner’s slush fund, errr leadership PAC, The Freedom Project.

At the Convention, Boehner gave two awkward, drunken speeches that were embarrassing, somewhat uncomfortable, and confusing at best for those in attendance. The man could not pronounce a name if his life depended on it.(Click For More)

I have emails concerning Boehner's crying. I am trying to find a source to verify those. It is said that Boehner has been coached. He has been given "acting lessons" as it were. His "crying" is as phoney as everything else he does.

That's the deal Trump should have made with Reince Priebus for his loyalty pledge.

...support his replacement of McConnell & Boehner.

Where did you hear that? One thing he has said, out of his mouth, that he wants to open across borders insurance carriers. Does that sound like socialist healthcare?

Honer (who I admit once respecting) has done little more than rubber-stamp and enable Obama’s attack on America

Boner has to GO!

Trump can influence what happens in congress NOW, before the election. It’s a delicate choice for him though IMO.

Conversely, the GOPe can influence the presidential election by what they do now. Though I expect them to maintain their “please Dems at all costs” strategy, they may have chances to aim a blow at Trump.

Most drunks I know are telling you they love you one minute and then saying they hate you the next. John seems to have those emotional moods swings when he’s drunk.

I know people that know him well. He’s smoking and drinking all day.

I see you’re still sticking with the 15 year old line even though many people have pointed out it is wrong.

and that the party will not run any adds against him going forward, and to the extent it can will urge independent PACs to hold off as well.
