I am not sure I understand your story about the bear. It wasn’t bear season, or he didn’t have a license? If the bear was coming at him it was self defense, nothing wrong there.

We have hunted deer in the center of Michigan, more than once. Beautiful country, nice people. I met some Amish, visited their homes, nice experience.

during bow and arrow season, your not suppose to have guns, this goes back about to 1960s. Deer season, bow and arrow is not bear season under and circumstances. At that time no guns should be carried when hunting. I have a picture of my husband standing next to the hung bear....but they sure investigated it thoroughly.....The guys were surprised to find out they even knew what store the ammo was purchased at. Its the 4th generation of family and close friends have hunted in (what they all call “the valley”. When they started to bring up their son's my grandsons, there was a rule that if the kids shot anything, they had to fix it for dinner....they found out they all love squirrel and one year one of the kids shot a porky pine...first and last time they ever did it...my husband drove into town and had a steak dinner...cooking porky is really gross..you could shot small game if you had licenses for small game..only the kids had small game licenses....

They hunted at Roscommon area....a couple of years ago my son was on the trail heading for a beer run in town and was following a puma that slowly sauntered off into the woods. Government says they ain't got no mountain lions in Michigan...
