I never knew this!

What about D3 and pregnancy? Is that a problem?

Maybe this will help: My cholesterol was 264, Instead of drugs I went on a low carb diet. Within 3 months my reading was 151, and by the end of 7 months, it was 142 and triglycerides had cratered. I also lost 107 pounds. Maybe you could give that a try. Sure worked for me.

Get out in the sun more. Your body manufactures vitamin D3 in response to sunlight on your skin. One reason people in places like Seattle or Alaska are more prone to depression is due to the lack of sun, especially in winter.

That’s been my experience as well.

Every one made me feel like I’d been beaten on the lower back.

I just came off them recently because they made me hurt, fogged my mind, and were raising my blood sugar.

I found this site and have started testing it along with stricter diet and exercise.

http://steponefoods.com/default.aspx

The founder will actually e-mail you back and forth, She is a preventative cardiologist and very informative.

Please, AVOID the statins!

At 68 yr the doctor put me on these. After using them for several months, found I could not walk without pain in my hip joints. Every step taken, and just sitting, caused an unbearable pain. They also caused my blood sugar count to rise. After the problems were known, they put me on a drug (of course the name is now long forgotten. The drug worked but was so darned expensive they put me on Niacin instead. 1000 mg daily. It as been effective for 14 years and counting. Statins are also causes of liver problems as well as blood sugar. Changing a diet is never an option LOL!

Statin drugs also affect your memory and mind. This has been noted in airline pilots...and yes, this is serious but can be remedied once the drugs are stopped. If you can avoid them....by all means do so!!

A

Statins kill.

There's a reason they make you feel like you have a hangover 7x24 (oh, but you'll get used to it!), they are killing you.

There is simply no substitute for getting your body fat to 12% or less...AND getting you heart healthy by vigorous exercise.

Vigorous exercise for a 70yr old man would be a BRISK walk. If you're younger, step it up a bit...bicycle...jog etc.

Just do it. It's the only answer.

Oh, and good diet. Slightly high on the protein side.

NO SEED OILS, Olive oil and butter ONLY. No refined carbs.

No more than one standard, pussy-ass drink per day. And no, you can't save them up for the weekend.

Your post contradicts itself in addition to being flat out wrong. Please leave the quackery to Dr Oz and the Oprah crowd.

Statins are powerful and effective when prescribed and monitored by a Cardiologist, and for some, like myself, they are the only game in town.

I love pasta. what is an acceptable substitute.

Whole wheat pasta or veggie "pasta" (which is just shredded veggie that feels like pasta).

You are going to have to put away a lot of your old notions. Quinoa is excellent for you. And if you don't think so, that's fine, but it's better than meds.

My cholesterol straightened itself out once I got control of my diet.

My BP is a different story but I have about 15 years on you that I have worked on this.

I was an Army Mess Sgt so I can cook and enjoy it.

First ask about 81 mg aspirin. Take 120 mg fish oil twice a day. Forget the statins — quit eating garbage.

First of all, cut out the corn sugar — no soda pop, just iced tea with lemon or water. It will take you only two weeks to get used to it.

Then cut out the salt, sugars and carbs. Don’t worry about fats. Eat meats without added salt and veggies. By good vinegar, oils, spices and have fun cooking. Eat three meals a day and go to bed with an empty stomach.

You will be at 190 lbs in a year and everyone will tell you that you are 10 years younger than you were.

From your post: Statins kill. There's a reason they make you feel like you have a hangover 7x24 (oh, but you'll get used to it!), they are killing you.

Nothing is a panacea, but statins definitely work miracles for some. They also do not have he side effects you claim on everyone. Proper monitoring by a cariologist is the other half of the equation, of course.

Actually there is, and statins can be a part of that. Anecdotally as a data point that contradicts your statement, I have suffered hart disease for 20 years, my body fat percentage has always been normal to low and before my chest pains became unbearable I led a very active life with plenty of gym time and a fairly healthy diet, although with room for improvement. Now however, I a unable to exercise strenuously without monitoring (my last heart attack was June of this year). That was from a brisk walk, and I am under 55. Suggesting strenuous exercise can be as deadly as you suggest statins are.

Oh, and good diet. Slightly high on the protein side. NO SEED OILS, Olive oil and butter ONLY. No refined carbs.

You obviously don't understand how olive oil is made, relying on both the seeds and the fruit. Then you also suggest butter, which is far higher in saturate fat and cholesterol than most any seed oil outside of coconut oil. the refined carbs comment makes no sense without defining what you mean by refined, but most people prefer their carbs either as sugars or as prepared carbohydrates like pasta, potatoes, rice and bread.

No more than one standard, pussy-ass drink per day. And no, you can't save them up for the weekend.

Abstaining from alcohol is generally healthy, yes.

Agreed. Statins are NOT good. Certainly not worth the risk.

My personal experience has shown me this:

2 tablespoons of Flax oil and a couple of garlic capsules every day knocked 20 points off my cholesterol numbers. Use liquid flax oil, not capsules. Lot easier than taking 20 caps a day.

Allow 60-90 days for improvements in your blood work to show. You’re not going to die of heart disease in a couple of months regardless.

Every one of the supplements says don’t use them in pregnancy but that is the lawyers talking as much as anything else. D3 is simply a portion of sunshine. If you’re doctor says no sunshine then no D3.
