(CNN)—The war against ISIS is expanding to a new frontier: its finances.

As the terror group plunders archaeological sites and oil fields in Iraq and Syria, the United States is offering a $5 million reward for tips to stop the smuggling of gas and antiquities.

The terror group's oil and antiquities trafficking are crucial sources of revenue, the State Department said in a statement announcing the reward.

Funds for brutal tactics

ISIS makes millions of dollars from the trafficking of oil and antiquities, which helps fund its brutal tactics, U.S. officials said.

"The U.S. Department of State hopes this reward generates information regarding individuals or entities engaged in the production, facilitation, processing, smuggling, distribution, sale and trade of oil and antiquities that benefit ISIL, as well as information regarding smuggling networks, methods and routes," it said.

Experts have described it as the best-funded terrorist organization in history, which draws recruits from all over the world.

The funds are used for various things, including paying the terror group's fighters.

While Russia sets up in Syria to destroy ISIS, we seek to inconvenience it. Instead of using our own intel and special forces assets, we’re going to bribe someone to give us information that — knowing how muslims are — will be false.

Good God, this country is weak.

Take the oil from ISIS and watch their money source dry up, says Trump. Great idea, says I and lots of others. Another case of Trump is right.

So after some 2-3 years later we are just now “going after their finances”?

I know the announcement should have some dramatic music to go with it but my head just hears the last tweets of the Three Stooges theme...

“Good God, this country is weak.”

You’re missing one word:

Good God, this country’s leadership is weak.

Obama likes them and wants them around, hence more talk and half measures.

This is going to grow into a nasty war.

It seems as if there is a potential here for a perfect storm. Preppers are worried about solar flares and EMPs and electrical grids and what not. They might want to look at what's brewing in the middle east.

I think he likes them enough in Syria that he tolerates their presence everywhere else. or something like that.

The first best step to cause serious damage to ISIS finances would come through removing Obama from office.

Well... the “leadership” is indeed weak, but the country is also weak for twice electing it.
