Just WOW!
Any post processing was minor, not highly processed. Most of the effect is from a tripod and long exposure. And the most important factor was walking around and finding the great composition.
like I said, I do a lot of photography, aNd have noted the things I noted aS they are familiar techniques to me- The dynamic range is too great for a simple straight out of camera shot-The shadows have been lifted- this isn’t something that a long exposure will accomplish- it has to be done post process- and the color is far too saturated- and it has a heavy vignette as stated before- The composition is incidental to the points brought up- it has nothing to do with shadows, color, light etc-
These of course are personal preferences- I don’t particularly like photos that manipulate the dynamic range so much, nor that boost the color saturation to such a degree-
there are some other indications as well, such as stars I nthe sky- long exposure would cause ‘trails’ in the stars because of rotation of earth- (depending on how long the exposure is)- They would be blurry- and look like streaks- to me this photo seems to show some as streaks, some as sharper points of light- but it’s hard to tell with a small photo
you can see the sky is blotchy I n the light area- an indication of lifting the darks in the sky and of color manipulation- A straight out of camera shot would have the sky much smoother looking- it was pushed quite far-
Seeing the northern light is at the top of my bucket list.

I don’t understand the concept of “close air support”, apparently.

I was told about a soldier in Vietnam who was in a position which was in imminent danger of being overran. The helicopters there to support them were going to rocket the hand thrown smoke and advised everybody to get down. The soldier thought it would be cool to watch because it would be so close, he stood up and saw the rockets hit and explode, he lived but had to go to an aid station for shrapnel wounds. The doctors said he looked like he had stuck his head into a sackful of rabid rats.
That is the definition of “close air support”
The dynamic range isn’t as great as you say it is. Everything in the shot is dim compared to daylight (look at the shadow of the plane (it’s black)), but is made to look bright by the long exposure. And there is a slight amount of blurring, but an exposure of around 60 seconds isn’t going to cause that much, and that’s all that’s needed.
This girl does ... but then I like most warbirds, classic or modern :-)
There are a few aircraft which most perfectly go from intended design to successful function. The A-10 is one of them. Which is why we’re getting rid of them.
sorry but 60 seconds causes huge blurring- a couple of second will cause a moon shot to be out of focus-
I stand by what I’ve noted- the Ground shadow is darker than any shadow under the plane- much darker- too dark- the dynamic range has been manipulated- the colors als0 like stated are to saturated- but again, that’s a personal opinion- some like it like that-
A long exposure does not even out dynamic range like that- only multiple exposures (HDR) or lifting shadows can do this- The dynamic range between the light in sky and dark of the sky has also been digitally manipulated-
Like I said, there’s lots of indications of a heavy processing in the photo- You can disagree if you like, but my points stand-

these things are just awesome- youtube has some videos of them just devastating ground targets- the guns these things have are frighteningly powerful- They say that the enemy when they hear an A-10 coming they know they are likely doomed- Just the sound of the plane strikes fear In the enemy
As wicked powerfuls as these are, the AC-130 Gunship are even more devastating- truly amazing warplanes- Youtube has videos of these too- well worth a watch
