I hope the poor girl lost consciousness quickly.
Why in the he’ll wouldn’t they put an door latch on the inside of such a device?
Isn’t the whole point, they just thaw her out, slap the paddles on her or sumpin’ and no problemo?
Then there was the guy who drowned in a vat of beer.
It was awkward explaining to his widow that footprints evidenced he climbed out a couple times to pee.
Just strip down and jump into icy lakes and rivers like Russians and Finns do.
Never liked them either...
If it could only be locked from the outside who locked it?
I’ve seen it before
It happens all the time
Closing the door
You leave the world behind
You’re digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you’ll pay
You’re as cold as ice
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You want paradise
But someday you’ll pay the price, I know
It seems to be the latest stupid Hollywood health fad out on the West Coast. The place that this girl worked was dedicated to it. Just dumb.
These contraptions use liquid nitrogen as the cooling agent. Perhaps there was some sort of leak. In the presence of a hot salon manager, liquid nitrogen turns to gaseous nitrogen, displacing all the oxygen. Soon, the salon manager blacks out without warning, because there is no excess CO2 to trigger a suffocation reflex. Store's closed. Nobody around to notice the problem.
From an account of a 1981 NASA accident involving non-cryogenic nitrogen:
Nearly 80 percent of the air we breathe is nitrogen, a virtually inert and usually harmless gas. Most of the rest is oxygen, which causes the release of carbon dioxide from our bloodstream into our lungs. This CO2 build-up triggers our sense of breathlessness, the need to inhale. But when breathing pure nitrogen, no CO2 is released into the lungs, and victims have no idea they are suffocating. They breathe normally until unconsciousness strikes. And it strikes within seconds.
Moments after Forrest Cole disappeared behind the curtain covering door 50-1, Bill Wolford followed. Crawling through the entrance, he turned to find Bjornstad lying on his back, unconscious. Yanking the curtain aside, Wolford called for help, then turned to assist his friend. As he reached for Bjornstad's hand, darkness swept over him and Wolford passed out, falling atop Bjornstad's body.
The three men had been inside Columbia for less than a minute.
Depending how quickly the chamber got to -240, anyone trapped might not be able to get to a latch fast enough to escape.
Beauty salons seem to be the last refuge of medical quackery.
I’m amazed anyone was ever allowed to sell a machine like this. It might as well come with a flashing neon sign on the front: DEATH TRAP.
In Upton Sinclair’s “The Jungle,” a work of muck-raking fiction which depicted abuse of mostly foreign workers in early-day meat processing industry in Chicago,a worker purportedly fell into a bubbling vat of sausage, and by the time his remains were recovered, was mostly cooked off the bone. That wasn’t the worst of it, the vat of sausage was not discarded.
Somebody’s got some ‘splainin’ to do!
I’ve heard the a spoon full of your own feces, daily, was popular in the 15th century. I wonder when someone in Cuckooville will dredge that back up...
>> That is a rather chilling tale.
No need to be so cold.
Oh, dude!
Just don’t lick her.
