We have heard it many times. We in the mass media are ignorant and deceptive partisans, propagandists, and shills. The rest of us are just mindless puppets. The 24-hour news cycle is responsible for dividing America and dumbing down political discourse. In short, modern journalism is the worst thing to happen to the U.S. since Justin Bieber crossed the border.
True, journalism isn't perfect. But such widespread disdain toward journalists is predicated upon exaggerations and misconceptions. A recent, eye-opening literature review by a professor from Stockholm University in Annual Review of Economics examined the impact of the mass media on society and politics. Its findings were far less grim than what is commonly believed.

The legacy media is a bad joke. I don’t know much except about motorcycles, airplanes and scientific stuff I learned during my education and career as an exploration geologist. Whenever the media reports on something I know about, they are so misinformed it is scary!
If they are always wrong about the few things I know about, it makes me believe they must be wrong also about the thousands of things I DON’T know about!

People in the news business know better.
All those stories were true, and he was railroaded. That is why he is now employed to teach journalism ethics. That way every reporter can learn to be as diligent and professional as he is.

No, I think it is probably worse than what "many believe" actually. When the "news" media works in concert spreading the administration's daily narrative as fact, propping up candidates and entrenched political operatives who lean to the left and at the same time refuse to do real investigative journalism of the same, it is a problem.
